SaQuaNa is not nearly as good as it thinks it is. The shtick is that this is a restaurant run by a chef tired of catering for the few and now extending his culinary skills to the many. Don't misunderstand me, for a per person lunch - depending on choice - costing between 30 -50 Euros, you won't get better in Honfleur; a tourist trap used to dolling out bad-priced poor food. However, if one judges SaQuaNa on its broader intentions it is more SoSoSo! The 'supplement' starter of monk fish soup was a predictable Thai broth with a small portion of fish in it. The mushroom brioche was low on shrooms to a point of dryness and the main course, a sweet pancake with spicy cod was a complete misconception. The patisserie desert was bought from the next door's baker - a frank disclosure discovered when I asked the direct question. The bottom line for me is IF you are in Honfleur DO choose SaQuaNa but on the broader canvas you are likely to find the experience forgettably average. And, BTW, I found the service disinterested to the point...
Read moreTerrible night but great food, the concept is unique, sa qua na has 28 small dishes for a fair price, they told us we could order whatever and, whenever we wanted "the Japanese way". Sadly after our 3rd appetizer (together so 1,5 each) they told us the "cuisine chaud" was closed. After our small first appetizers we weren't allowed to order hot food anymore... Except cold desserts... somehow this is their idea of the Japanese way the: "a l'aise" way. We outed our discontent and they started making up excuses and even reacted aggressive towards us, I'm sorry but a 2 starred Restaurant should know better than making up stuff along the way and they should know that customer is the absolute king, normaly the michelin guide stands for absolute quality... In this case it stands for 3 appetizers - dessert and no possibility to taste the main courses, the reason you come to a supposedly good restaurant. Absolutely ruined our night. Sad to know that there are 2 starred restaurants who don't serve their complete menu when they don't...
Read moreSaQuaNa was a last minute pick for lunch during a day trip to Honfleur, and it ended up my favourite spot in the week I spent in France. The menu is seasonal and changes, with set options (starter + main course or main course + dessert, etc.)
It was a BEAUTIFUL summer day, we got the following:
They started us off with some fantastic home made bread (paid extra for butter, which was also worth it) - 10/10 The starter was salmon, it has a lovely silken texture, in a sorrel brothy sauce - 10/10 This is probably one of the best dishes I've had in a fine dining restaurant Our main was a mince beef filled, fried sea shell in a fresh tomato sauce - 8.5/10 it would have been a 10 but I thought the seashell pasta was a tad thick, especially when fried Dessert - pistachio tart, and lemon meringue tart. 10/10 for both Had the recommended pinot with the meal
The bill was about 75 Euros for 2 people.
The view of the street was so cute, and I loved looking at all their gorgeous bread on display. I highly...
