Since I was in Marseille, I felt I had to get the Bouillabaisse - and ended up getting it from this place Firstly, the eating process for this dish was very unique - and very complicated. I had a waiter, who pretty much only speak French, try and explain to me how to eat this. It took a few minutes before I was able to get it right
Before the fish stew is served, you're served a bowl full of fish broth, along with bread, garlic, rouille sauce (a kind of spicy mayo), and cheese. You're supposed to first rub the garlic on the bread, dip it in the mayo, dip that in the cheese, and lastly dunk it in the bowl, before finally eating it. A lot of steps, but the final product is amazing. With the crunchiness of the stale bread mixing with the fat from the rouille and cheese, along with the fishy/liquid-like nature of the broth, you have something that's just not something you're typically going to find. This is the traditional way to eat bouillabaisse - so I'm glad this place adheres to that.
We also had bread slices with anchovy butter as complimentary starter - which was also fantastic.
Eventually, the actual main dish was brought out - a stew filled with several types of fishes. I don't have enough knowledge on seafood to identify what food exactly I was eating, but from what I see bouillaisse typically has sea robin, scorpionfish, and conger. I don't think the dish was particularly large - but the size of the fishes present inside was quite good. These fishes did taste incredibly fresh - practically like they were pulled straight from the ocean The part of the dish that I'm not as much a fan of was how the fish didn't have that much flavor - they mostly tasted like bland whitefish. the broth helped with this a bit, as I liked it, but while this had the quality, it didn't have enough flavor for me to really enjoy it
This is quite expensive. At around 60 euros, I get it - the fish was not something you would typically find and was obviously fresh, but I don't think it was worth it was far as value
Overall, it's an experience I'm glad I tried - and I loved the uniqueness of it, but its unlikely that I'll do it...

Read moreMediocre (only because of the soup otherwise tasteless) food, overpriced and extremely and unnecessarily rude staff! I read good reviews that this restaurant serves one of the best and traditional bouillabasie in Marsielle so, my husband and I went there. First the waiter seems nice but when we sat down and (as it was middle of the day and we wanted to drive) we didn't the soordere order wine, only water. And he this strange behavior that if we are in a wrong place! Then we ordered our food I went for the famous dish and my husband ordered a fish plate (overall something like 80 euros). The bouillabaisse was served in two course a fish soup and then another (when I saw it) bigger plate with still soup and fish. I wasn't even finish with my soup that one of them take it away from the table and after some seconds they brought the main course, and sauce was all over the plate (they even didn't bother to clean it) and they put it bamm! In front of me. The taste was really bad! I had to clean the disgusting taste of it with bread. I have never ever in my life been this much unsatisfied with my food in a reputed resturant. There were other people (French) there as well, but they were treated very nicely. If you are a tourist and looking for a nice experience and memorable dining save your time and money...
