3 stars for effort. 2 for food. I mean seriously... the lack of flavor not just in this restaurant but some of the surrounding ones as well Is not what you expect from French cuisine. Feels like they got their spot and cooking just IZ. Unfortunately my wife and I were so excited to have our special night out dinner here. Waited till opening time starving. Now you are hearing from 2 MAJOR foodies. Food is all we do, talk about and breath. We both come from major flavor cuisines and to sit down wait that long, and be served bland food is just disappointing. The staff was attentive well give them that. But the food was... overcooked... steak too done... fish bland... not sure what happening yo the other meals and the dessert didnt even hit the mark. Read moreGreat location on the port and the setting inside was nice. But we were sadly let down by our bouillabaisse. We ordered this local speciality as a treat (nearly €100 for two people to share) and one of the crabs was black on the inside and smelled absolutely foul. Our whole table of 12 could smell it. The staff first tried to say that it was not off, then attempted to claim that it was only for decoration on the plate, which they didn’t specify when they gave us the dish and even so you cannot serve putrid crab on the same plate as fish to eat. Both excuses unacceptable. No apology or acknowledgement of the validity of the issue, which was extemely awkward and ruined the tone of our evening for the whole table. Even aside from this, the other fish in the bouillabaisse was tough and flavourless. My husband grew up in Cassis and knows this is not normal for the dish - a complete letdown. They wouldn’t take any money off the bill for the rotten crab, not even a small amount as a gesture of good will. Other dishes seemed fine but uninspired and not fresh. Read moreThe restaurant looks nice and the wine was good, but unfortunately that’s all I can say that was positive. If you don’t speak fluent French or go with a native speaker, the customer service is dismissive and neglectful. What should have been a magical evening was completely ruined by a very rude waiter with a terrible attitude, who made us feel as though we were bothering him by asking questions and generally inconveniencing him by being there and trying to speak French - to the point that we were afraid to complain about the quality of the food for fear of what he might say or of being completely dismissed . On the other hand he treated the French speaking couple next to us very nicely and they seemed pleased with their meal and had friendly discussion with the waiter.
To make things worse, one of the dishes was unacceptable: poorly presented, a hard piece of meat, and an over-fried pile of fries. I didn’t send it back only because I didn’t want to deal with the waiter’s arrogance again. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
A real shame — with better service and more care in the kitchen, this restaurant could live up to its setting...
