The worst restaurant experience I have ever had after visiting so many countries. I wish there was an option to give a negative star rating for this restaurant. I went there with my family for a dinner after the Calanque tour. There was an old lady waitress. I don’t speak French so I requested her if we could speak in English. Maybe she didn’t like this too. While she was handing us over the menu cards, I asked if there was also a menu card in English, and luckily there was one. After bringing us the menu in English, she again said something in French but this time she started to be rude. I again asked her if we could speak in English or it would be nice if there was someone else who can also speak in English. She said something in French rudely and went. We felt very awkward. We were trying to communicate by translating from my phone and she was speaking very little English that too with great difficulty. We still started going through the menu. The menu had 3 pages. Last page was for beverages, there was no non-alcoholic option. Maybe there was another drinks menu but since we got only this one, so not sure. The lady returned after some minutes to take the order. Along with my wife, I was trying to order one dish for each of us from this 2 page menu, except anything for my youngest son. The waitress got very angry and said extremely rudely that we must order 1 item for everyone. We were already ordering the kids menu. My smallest kid, who just turned 3 years, was already full. I requested again that my youngest son does not need another full meal and I can share with him. To this she told me the unimaginable, she asked me to either oder another meal or leave. We were shocked by this response. I again confirmed if this is what she really meant, and she told us that every person taking a seat has to order. So basically my 3yr old son has to order or leave. Even after so much, I still asked the waitress if we could order and take the food as a take away instead of dining-in (because the dish my wife was ordering, was the reason we went to this restaurant in the first place), I was still trying, but the waitress simply said No to this request as well. I got very annoyed and extremely sad with this behaviour, but I told my wife that we should leave and should not say anything as it might create a scene unnecessarily and moreover we also can’t speak French. So we left with such a heavy heart. This was our last day in our trip to France, now leaving France with such a bad experience and broken heart. I met so many people here and dined at so many places in France during this trip. I had developed a feeling that everyone here is so warm hearted, but maybe I was wrong. I would definitely never go to this restaurant ever, and because of this experience, I would also never visit Cassis...
Read moreWe regret our choice. Our waitress was very charming when we were browsing the menu before choosing to eat at this place, but as soon as we sat down, the mood shifted. We saw multiple couples get up and leave before receiving their food, so we were worried. The waitress brought us a metal bucket of “fresh caught” fish, showing us the catch of the day. Because the menu was so confusing, we did not end up ordering these fish, which caused our waitress to immediately become rude and unhelpful. Someone in our party attempted to order the petite bouillabaisse, a less expensive and personal-sized version of their ridiculously large 55€ bouillabaisse, and our waitress simply refused to take the order. She insisted that every person at the table HAD to order a full size entree, but even when this person tried to order the moules frites from the “today’s specials” menu, she was, again, refused and told that they were out of season. How could something be out of season if it’s one of “today’s specials”? What we ended up being practically forced to order in quick, likely purposefully unintelligible French (which, even with a French speaker in the group, we could not understand) was a mushy, microwaved looking sole meunière, moules gratin which had been oiled to death, and “fried fish” that vaguely resembled cat food (basically just sardines). We struggled to get the food down, asked for the check, and got as far away from the restaurant as possible. As soon as we had sat down at the beginning of the meal, a member of our party (getting the feeling that this was not going to be enjoyable) said: “they can’t all be winners”. We should...
Read moreWe visited Cassis for a few hours while staying in Marseille. A couple of bar owners and taxi drivers told us we should go.
Our bus was delayed by an hour some didn't arrive until gone 2pm, so we were concerned that the restaurants would be closed.
Thankfully we found Poissonnerie Laurent. We were warmly welcomed and our waiter was cheerful and helpful with the menu.
My wife had Moules Provencal, which came in a huge pot with a tomato sauce, chips and bread. They were big and plump, perhaps because they were baked.
I had a Small Bouillabaisse. It's a good job I ordered a small one because it was huge. A plate of potatoes, with mussels and a whole Gurnard plus at least a dozen large croutons, rouilly and grated cheese and a tureen full of soup. The waiter explained how I should eat it, which was helpful. It took an age to eat it because there was so.much, but it was fantastic. I highly recommend the restaurant and the dish.
All washed down with a glass or two of local Rose wine which was lovely. A touch of salinity, red fruits, herbs and lovely and off dry.
We even had room for a Lemon Meringue tart which came with the most incredible cassis I've cream.
The service was prompt, we were never rushed, and the bill came to €105, which was very reasonable for such a fabulous meal great service overlooking the...
