Mini Hostel Au Petit chez Soi — Hotel in Marseille

Very small hostel, clean, 2 kitchen areas, 2 bath rooms, small garden with table, easy to reach from the train station, just one bus to the city centre, then 5-10 minutes walk, close to the beach, best town to stay to do the claques hike. clear instruction for checking in. the owner would not let me keep my luggage, she told me I have to be out by 10 with all my things, they don't let you use common parts if you ware waiting for a train or bus or doing something during the day in town, they want you out of the premises by 10 am with all your things even if you are not using the bed. First time I have seen this in any accommodation after travelling 45 countries and 100s of town and cities across the world. I was not impress about this, I had only small luggage which could of been easily kept during the day. I would look for an alternative option, although very busy in this small town, but seen other hostels with swimming pool for...

Overall, it was a good accommodation. Great location near the port, and easy to access the beaches and Calanques. Friendly owner, and the place is kept clean.

My biggest qualm is that the place can get uncomfortably crowded, especially in the morning, when the owner starts cleaning before 10 am, and continues until 11:30 am. I found it difficult to go about my morning in a comfortable and relaxed way, which I should be able to do on my vacation. When I made myself breakfast (before 10 am), I felt like I was in the way, because there would be mopping and other cleaning going on around me.

This is only a small negative, though, and I would not hesitate to recommend this place to others or come back for...

PROS: Super intimate hostel, only 2 rooms, each with 6 beds so you WILL chat with other guests. Small kitchen with free coffee and tea + utensils to cook meals. Free breakfast is bread with butter or jam. Outdoor garden is cute, very close to beach and central cassis. People are friendly!

CONS: noisy at night because of proximity to street and church. Sometimes feel like you’re standing on other people because hostel is so small. Can be nerve racking being that close to people. Old bunk beds - rooms are nothing special. Mosquitos are bad and will bite you in the garden and in your bed...
