My friend and I were looking for a late night sweet treat and saw this gelato store was open until 11 the night before. We remembered and walked across the street in our pajamas thinking we were going to grab a cup and go; little did we know we were going to make a beautiful memory chatting with George, the owner. He was so personable and made us try half the flavors he had, telling us if we didn’t like them to pretend because we weren’t allowed to make him cry. He shared stories of New York and some of his other travels and people he cares about in his life. He asked us what we were taking home with us immaterial, like our memories, we shared a few with him and he told us to keep traveling to make more. I’m sorry if this makes you cry George but you and our experience will now be one of the immaterial things we take back with us.

So there’s this guy George who makes and sells gelato just off the beach in a tiny shop just wide enough for his gelato cooler and a cash register. He not only teaches you everything about how to eat gelato, but he feeds you so many samples that you probably don’t need to actually buy any gelato. The true magic is that you walk away having bought three scoops and raving about what an awesome experience that was, and feel compelled to write a five-star review. Honestly Google needs a 6-star rating for that rare and wonderful time when a proprietor so fully knocks it out of the park that your life feels richer for having interacted with them.

He speaks English, French, Italian, Romanian, and I swear he was speaking German to the two dudes in line after us.
