Les Serveurs Terribles, that's how that's how this place should be called. In french means "the terrible waiters". So disappointing from start to finish, that i am really gonna enjoy writing this bad review. I wanna begin by saying that i booked for two, arrived to the busy chaotic place i aknowloged myself to an old waiter and i asked if i could wait inside or i should have moved outside. He said: you can wait inside. So i made a sign to my old mother that she could come in. And i took a menú from the pile in the locker, wanting to save some time, being the menú like a long book to read and study (already a mistake). I couldn't finish my action of taking the menú, that a young inexperienced, unpolite and actually really rude waiter told us to wait outside escorting me to the entrance. Very bad sign and red flag. Should have gone away already at this point and we regret we didn't do it. So we go outside and wait. Finally we get to the table with sticky tablecloth with waxed textile orribile to the touch and the view as well. Feeling dirty. The super long menú and the high prices made it difficult to choose. Strange menú as well because it started with cocktails in the first two pages. In the meanwhile i was dodging with my head the many inexperienced waiters that were about to bump on my head with the plates they were carrying for other customers. They bumped into my mother menú as well while she was choosing. So we take two pre-made menus at fixed price, one for 25 euros and one for 36, one mojito and one glass of white wine and caraffe of water. They were so slow in bringing us the water than i had to pour to my thirsty mom's glass some bottlled water i had in my backpack and when i asked the free caraffe instead of the bottled one, that the always different guy brought us, i didn't like the attitude of the guy serving me, hitting the table hard with the bottle itself. Another guy comes and gives us some very commercial gazpacho as an appetizers, unrequested and brought instead of the amousebouche we had included in the menus we ordered. Then they bring me the octopus salad. Cold and stinky, so much that i couldn't eat it. The octopus never tasted so bad, I left it and nobody even asked me what was wrong. The guy just told me: did you finish? And took it away. As main course we ordered fish of the day, asking to different waiters, nobody knew what kind of fish it was. Maybe one maybe another. Like is the same. Not tasty without salt and dry. Would have been Inedible without extra virgin olive oil, that i had to take myself from another table. Maybe the desserts were the only thing that were not so bad after all. But we paid 83 euros to eat very bad, and being treated like stupid tourists. To avoid like COVID-19. Better fasting. If in Menton, go to "il vecchio forno" or "la trattoria" that they are much better restaurants. Thanks to them, "the terrible kids" for showing me the bottom from which i can only go higher. Please go elsewhere...if there was a minus 2 stars i would have given that rating. Please stop being a restaurant and be ashamed of yourself. Don't try to answer this comment, it will make it only worse. Have some dignity...
Read moreSince 2010, I travel almost every year to Menton for a couple of weeks (except during the COVID pandemic) and we eat at this restaurant at least once or twice a year. This time, the food was excellent, as always. But what was really disappointing and somewhat impolite, was the service. My wife and I, together with our kids, booked a table couple of days ago. When we entered the restaurant, almost no other customers were there. The responsible person gave us a table at the far end of the restaurant, almost outside the restaurant area. Other tables were equipped with ventilators which is very useful during hot summer days such as today. When we asked if they can give us one of those tables, they told us that all tables are booked which was really weired since we visit this restaurant since 2010 and it has never been full! Of course, we would be happy if they could have the restaurant full of customers :) We saw other people entering, clearly without any previous booking, and getting better tables more suitable for hot summer days, while we were sitting outside in the heat and suffering flies and moquito bites and sometimes visits from bees :) The food was excellent, as usuall. But how it was served was also unprofessional. They brought my wife's main course first, then it took almost 10-15 minutes until they brought my food and my children's food. They brought several water bottles for us (which we ordered). What we needed was just normal tap water for the kids which is free in France, but we realized that they charged us 5,5 Euros per bottle when we got the receipt since they gave us mineral water without telling us! In the end, they gave my wife a small schnaps (usual treat of the restaurant) but did not bring me any without asking if I would like to have some, although we ordered handsomely. After we paid and started leaving the restaurants, we saw that more than half of the good tables with ventilators were still free...
All in all, excellent food, but horrible service and I hope that the owner takes action in...
Read moreThe atmosphere is good, nice plates (although they told us that if our kid breaks sth we must pay a lot?!-great to start a dining experience) but the waiters could not care less, maybe they know Menton is a touristic place and they would not see us again? I mean we ordered the menu and when the main dishes came, a young waiter brought us two additional plates, one stacked on top of the other. He just let them in our table, one on top of the other and left without saying anything. Was it for bones or shells? No one understood, only one person had taken the paella where that was necessary. On top of the upper plate were two disinfectant hand towels, although we were 5 people? The entry was a plate of cold appetizers and supermarket salad leaves without dressing or olive oil. The two small pies were good though. Main dish I took steak which was chewy and hard to cut. The potatoes and didn’t want to imagine in what kind of reused oil they were fried. To finish up I had ordered the chocolate cake with ice cream and what came was a small water glass of one ball of half melted icecream with whipped cream and chocolate sirup and perhaps a thin slice of some kind of chocolate or brownie at the bottom? I m not sure. Perhaps taking the menu was a bad choice? Anyway it kind of ruined our Menton experience. On the way to the car 5-10 mins of walking from there, we saw many other restaurants where locals seemed to dine, perhaps one must search more and avoid this...
