I recently dined at Annaporna unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had at an Indian restaurant. The poor service and lack of respect towards customers left a lasting impression, overshadowing any potential positives.
From the moment my group of four adults arrived, we were met with an unwelcoming attitude from the waitstaff. One of the most frustrating aspects of our visit was how the waiters pushed us to order additional dishes without giving us a chance to taste the initial ones. It felt like they were more interested in maximizing our bill rather than ensuring our dining experience was enjoyable.
To make matters worse, I was astonished when the bill arrived, and I realized I had paid a staggering 188€, the highest amount I have ever spent at an Indian restaurant in Paris. Considering the exorbitant price, one would expect impeccable service and an exceptional culinary experience. However, the reality was far from that. The terrible service we received only intensified my disappointment.
It is disheartening to even consider the possibility that our subpar experience may have been influenced by our Indian heritage. I sincerely hope this was not the case, as discrimination has no place in the hospitality industry. Regardless of our background, every customer deserves to be treated with respect, professionalism, and courtesy.
Aside from the disappointing service and possible bias, the overall dining experience was lackluster. The food itself did not live up to the high expectations I had for an Indian restaurant in Paris. The flavors were mediocre, lacking the authentic taste and finesse one would anticipate from a cuisine known for its rich and vibrant spices.
In conclusion, my visit to annaporna left me deeply dissatisfied and frustrated. The service was abysmal, showing a lack of respect towards customers, and the constant pressure to order more dishes without allowing us to enjoy the initial ones was a blatant disregard for our dining experience. While I can't be certain if our ethnicity played a role in the poor treatment we received, it is an unfortunate thought to consider.
Given the high price tag and the lackluster culinary experience, I cannot recommend Annaporna to anyone seeking an authentic and enjoyable...
Read moreShort Summary: Ridiculous minimum order policy, very small and limited menu and expensive.
Went to this restaurant on my visit to paris. The restaurant is built nicely with good ambience (although they have lion skins nailed on the walls as decoration, not sure how many people will like that). They tried really hard trying to make it look Indian but failed big time. You will see boards saying “Punjab” and antique chairs and tables to give the indian look. But it just doesn’t feel that way.
The waiters are french and are professionals (as you would expect from a french person).
The menu size is very small, it doesn’t even cover the basic indian dishes. They have only one type of paneer and dal. There is no variety at all. Being a vegetarian and having only one type of dal and paneer puts you in a tough spot
We went as a group of 4 and were told that the restaurant policy is that we should order at least 4 dishes if we want to dine otherwise it has to be a takeaway. We asked them if we are not able to finish it then what, to which he replied that this is the policy.
It is to be noted that the policy has been set in place by the higher management and not the waiters. So i did not feel that they were rude, they were just telling us what they were told and the way they told us was pretty normal (although it may seem rude to some).
Still we decided to eat as we were very tired. The food came and the tables weren’t even big enough to hold all the plates and dishes. The portions were small considering the very expensive price for each dish. The food tasted above average although not good. When you go to an expensive restaurant you expect to eat at least good quality food. Not the case here.
The waiter was nice enough to give us a complimentary dessert (gulab jamun) but not sure if that was the waiter or general...
Read moreThe French receptionist at the gate answered us when we asked for a table for 5 with this exact answer “ No No you can have table , we are fully book for tonight” We told him thanks and we left the restaurant I guess that there is a better attitude to welcome your guest and I wouldn’t harm , If the receptionist said “ unfortunately we don’t have table for tonight, we are fully book . I am really sorry “
But anyway you can’t teach receptionist how to answer customers but you can choose better receptionist that are well trained how to gain costumer loyalty or preferences.
Moreover, I called second day to have a reservation for 5 I got the reservation at 8 PM THEN I just wanted to test the receptionist attitude and asked are kids are allowed , he said no today you can’t but after tomorrow at 7:40 PM You can . That’s show there is no rules towards children but it’s only receptionist welling .
However, I visited a lot of sophisticated classy restaurants all over the world. Manners and staff attitude what make the experience unforgettable.
