Bonhomme is a truly spectacular restaurant! My husband and I loved it so much our first night in Paris that we went back for the last night of our trip.
The staff is wonderful. We try to greet everyone in our very poor French whenever we go out in another country. The staff at Bonhomme was always so warm, welcoming and kind. Louise was our server the first night and we were able to be in her section the second night as well. She was so patient with us and our many questions about the menu!
Everything we had was fresh and flavorful. I loved the red Sancerre I had so much the first night that we had another glass of it on the second night. We even bought a case of it.
The first night we had a beef starter that was a special and not on the menu (photo 1). For our entrees, I had the trout filet and my husband had the chicken. Both were delicious and we both agreed that it was the best chicken we've ever had.
We finished with the dark chocolate mousse (photo 2). Chocolate mousse is always my favorite kind of dessert, but this one in particular is literally the best I've ever had. Louise spooned it out for us at the table then topped it with some caramelized almonds and finally a drizzle of caramel. We had this both nights it was that good!
The second night, we started with the smoked eel (photo 3). We both had never had smoked eel and Louise recommended it to us. We loved it! I had the vegetarian entrée that night which was a special kind of mushroom over some kind of grain/spelt (photo 4). It was fantastic. My husband had the chicken again since he loved it so much the first night. We of course finished with the dark chocolate mousse.
Thanks to Louise and the entire crew at Bonhomme! We cannot wait to visit again the next time...
Read moreThis could be the best restaurant I’ve ever been to in Paris! Beautiful food, super friendly staff in a chic but casual setting.
FOOD The menu is fairly small which should be an indication of how good their food is. They have 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 deserts give or take which includes every time a meat, fish and vegetarian option. For lunch the menu changes daily. I took the honey aubergine for starters which simply melted in my mouth. But the grand act was clearly my bavette meat with beetroot sauce which not only tasted amazing but also looked so a aesthetically pleasing. I observed for 10 seconds before digging in as it deserves appreciation. Drinks were fabulous too, we were recommended a delicious wine from the region of Rhône, a local French Whiskey as well as a local French Rum. Price wise is also great value in my opinion, 120€ for two with drinks and tip.
STAFF/SERVICE The friendly staff are part of the reason to come here. They are so passionate about their restaurant that they will chat with different tables about the food/restaurant/wine. Max took great care of us, top guy!
ATMOSPHERE/LOCATION Super central in a vibrant neighborhood, Bonhomme will be a perfect place before going out on the weekend but equally so for a date night. The restaurant is on two floors, the upstairs section seems more intimate while the downstairs section is more vibrant. Everything is mint new and clean given they only opened in May 2022. However, this also means you should probably...
Read moreI was excited to try this place after reading about it on the Michelin Guide, where they have given it the « bib gourmand ». Normally, these restaurants are well worth a visit, but unfortunately, I think Michelin should reconsider their choice to include Bonhomme on their list.
The menu is small, rotating, and appealing. There were some highlights from our dinner, one being the tomato and cherry tartare starter, and the other being the chocolate mousse for dessert. Other than that, the dinner was quite disappointing.
The service was, while not exactly rude, certainly cold, short, and unenthusiastic. And the food fell far below expectations. The trout fillet was overcooked, and had multiple bones still in it. The whole trout dish was tragically under seasoned, especially the zucchini sauce it was served with, which had almost no taste at all. The veal tartar was cut into much too large pieces, resulting in an unpleasant chewing experience. The other elements on the plate, like the brocoli, apricot, and a sweet sauce, were interesting, but did not work with the tartare. There was no cohesion to the dish.
Overall, I would skip this restaurant. There were some things that it had going for it, and maybe we visited on a particularly off night, but it certainly was not at the standard of other Michelin bib gourmand restaurants I have been, and there are plenty of other much better options for the price point...
