I recently had the pleasure of brunching at Brother and Sister with my friends, and it turned out to be a delightful experience. Our initial plan was to dine at a different restaurant, but after encountering a long wait despite our reservation, we decided to search for an alternative. Fortunately, we stumbled upon Brother and Sister and were seated within 15 minutes without a reservation.
Service: The service at Brother and Sister was exceptional. Our waiter was friendly, humorous, and very attentive. In Paris, it's common to order everything at once at à la carte brunch places, which often leads to desserts arriving before the main course or sides coming with dessert. We inquired if we could order dessert later, and our waiter cleverly suggested placing the order but sending it to the kitchen later. This thoughtful gesture prevented the awkward wait to place another order and ensured our dessert was served fresh. It's rare to find such accommodating service in Paris, and it truly made our brunch experience smoother and more enjoyable.
Food: We ordered two crispy chicken Sandos, a side of roasted broccoli with Parmesan, the eggs Benedict, and the Long Beach Pancakes. The crispy chicken Sando was fantastic – simple ingredients that complemented each other perfectly, with crispy, moist chicken and a sauce that tied everything together without being overpowering. The eggs Benedict were delicious, featuring creamy eggs, crispy (but not too salty) bacon, and a solid base of hashbrowns, all brought together by an exquisite hollandaise sauce. The side of broccoli was light and savory. The highlight was the dessert: a stack of Long Beach Pancakes generously coated in hazelnut chocolate and topped with bananas and caramelized hazelnuts. Each bite was a delightful surprise.
Atmosphere: The only downside was the noise level. The outdoor seating was densely packed, typical for Paris, making the restaurant quite noisy. If there was music playing, we couldn't hear it over the chatter. I wouldn't hold it against them, however, it's just the main constraint in Paris. On the other hand, the interior decoration was pleasant, the place was clean, and the seating was comfortable.
In summary, Brother and Sister provided a wonderful brunch experience with excellent service and delicious food. Despite the noise, the quality of the service and food more than made up for it. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a satisfying...
Read moreResponse to owner's comment: indeed, I will be more vocal from now on to the servers when I'm not satisfied with something and you're right: that smell was out of your control and pretty sure it's a one-off as I've stated (actually wondering if it was the SDF frequenting outside on the street). I cook halloumi often so I know how it should turn out (not dry and rubbery and that thin, especially when I'm paying extra for it). The hash brown was obviously deep fried but once again, hard instead of the intended melt-in-your-mouth result. Probably a personal preference, but I still feel like lattes and coffee should be served in mugs and not glass cups.
ORIGINAL COMMENT:
Ambiance is nice, girls working there are delightful and friendly and lucky for us, the wait wasn't TOO long on a Sunday afternoon at 2 pm (less than 30 min?) BUT the actual food itself was disappointing.
Bland and tasteless. Lattes came in small glass water cups instead of a decent sized mugs.Would not recommend ordering extras as we ordered and paid for extra avocado, salmon and halloumi...I was appalled to receive 3 VERY thin and overcooked slices of halloumi which was like eating hard rubber. Also, I see what they're trying to do with the hash brown instead of English muffin for the eggs benedict but it was once again hard and overcooked. I was excited for the bacon pancakes thinking it would be comparable to the ones at Holybelly but instead, it was dry and tasteless even with the syrup on.
Towards the end of our brunch, there was this repulsive smell of wet rag/unwashed person that suddenly permeated the place which came all of a sudden and from nowhere (the tables next to us near the windows were also complaining). Hopefully that's a one off...it was really gross and we were glad that we were...
Read moreAnother great brunch find for us in the 11th district, it's where all the great spots seem to be! We enjoyed our brunch together and don't get some of the hater reviews. Yes, the portions are a bit smaller but really by American standards, not the rest of the world and the taste is what matters.
The presentation, creativity and flavors of the dishes are stupendous. We had the eggs Benedict, the breakfast burrito and the raspberry pancakes and everything was beautifully plated and tasted delicious.
Service was solid, zero complaints, just not as warm and welcoming as the other spots we visited.
We arrived at 1030am on a Saturday and the place was completely empty and by the time we left at 1130am, it was completely full, including the patio seating.
Decor is bright, colorful and unique. Really great...
