We had visited the Musee twice previously and never managed to eat at this cafe, it always looked so colourful and inviting with a great view of one of the station clocks. So on our third visit this year we decided it was a must do….. what a HUGE disappointment. There was a bit of wait, maybe 20 minutes, which was to be expected given how busy the Musée was… after being shown to our table, the gentleman who appeared to be in charge pounced on us within minutes wanting to take our order. We had barely looked at the menu so asked him for some water and a few extra minutes to peruse the menu. He came back within a few minutes (still no water), we enquired as to the whereabouts of the water - he sternly replied ‘it’s coming’. We then got our food, still no water, we enquired with the waitress about the water, she got all huffy, stormed off and came back and slammed a bottle on the table. She then turned to another waitress and had a whinge including some derogatory comments (she shouldn’t assume we can’t understand French) they both giggled and walked off. If that wasn’t the worst of it. My lasagne was barely warm and the salad it came with was just lettuce - nothing more and to be perfectly honest I had tastier lasagne from the supermarket the night before. My partner had quiche, equally as Luke warm with the same dreary salad. For a Musee of such quality, quite possibly my favourite in the world, this cafe is a huge disappoint and a slight on what is such a wonderful Musee. Should I ever be fortunate to visit again, I will certainly be giving this cafe...
Read moreAvoid having lunch here if you can help it and especially if you look like you are from the Far East. As the other restaurant at Musee d'Orsay is closed, this remaining restaurant is overcrowded from 12pm to 2pm. The consequence is slow service and risk of bad attitude.
There was one waitress who repeatedly forgot several customers' requests and raised her voice with them when gently reminded. She even threw the glasses down at some other table as she was angry, raising some eyebrows among those other innocent customers. She is of African origin and all those abused customers are Orientals who have been nothing but gentle and spoke politely. Ironically, she is all smiley and respectful with white American and French customers.
I was there for an hour having my lunch and observing this waitress; she obviously could not operate under pressure and took her frustration out on less assertive cultures. Maybe the managers should take note of their manpower efficiency and staff training. They should also bear in mind that the world is not only black and white.
Well, the food is only so-so, otherwise there would be at least a saving grace: I had a lukewarm quiche and no butter for my bread. Only the monopoly due to its location in the museum ensures the restaurant's good business. The food and service were definitely not worth the...
Read moreWe visited the cafe for something light to eat after a large hotel breakfast. I opted for the assortment of choux buns and my partner for the carrot cake with 2 large coffees. Although the cafe was extremely busy at 2pm, we waited no more than 5 minutes for a table, the staff were extremely attentive and our order was taken quickly and arrived within 10 minutes. My buns were delicious and perfect for what I wanted. The carrot cake was a little dry as it was the end piece and we are used to having it with a sweet cream cheese icing, which was absent today, but still tasty. The lady sitting next to us had been there for a while as she was waiting for her partner and was also happy with her meal and portion size. There was no feeling of being rushed, despite the café being so full, and we were able to sit with a carafe of tap water to let our meal settle before enjoying the delights of the museum proper. Compared to our experience eating in the Louvre yesterday, this was by far the more satisfying and enjoyable. The prices were comparable with other similar...
