To sum things up: 5-stars ranking is fully justified (which is not necessarily the case with hotel rankings anywhere in the world). What the French refer to as "rapport qualité prix" is amazing, normally for a hotel of that level one expects to pay significantly more. Details, as follows. Location: ideal. Even though for Central Paris this is not that much significant due to its compact area, Hotel Pont Royal's location is still advantageous. Every part along blvd Saint-Germain, from Assemblée Nationale to Institut du monde arabe, everything is within walking distance. Louvre is about 9 minutes' walk by taking rue Gaston Gallimard, around the corner of Hotel Pont Royal, and rue de Beaune; 8 minutes' walk to Orsay. Took us about 20 minutes' walk to get to Pompidou and Les Halles. Heading down south towards Montparnasse? Still doable, about 25 minutes' walk down blvd Raspail. For anything you may need, like mineral water or snacks, there is Monoprix supermarket right outside the hotel. Staff: great welcome, friendly and efficient. Housekeeping: timely but the quality varies individually, regardless of the amount of euros left as tips. Except for the 1st day, the coffee cups were not cleaned, certain replaceable items not replaced. Breakfast: on the left of the elevators, ample sitting area. The breakfast buffet prices are not terribly high as usually is the case within hotel industry. We believe it was about 20-something euros pp, including breakfast buffet and made dishes (like omelettes) upon request. The food choices are more than satisfactory, from several kinds of cheeses and various sorts of charcuterie, different breads, pastries, eggs, hard boiled and scrambled, bacon, breakfast sausages, cereals, and veggies. Please refer to our pictures for more details. One thing we can assure you - you are not going to find more numerous breakfast options in 99.99% of Paris hotels (with the notable exclusion of L'Espadon at Ritz). Other dining: L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon in the hotel's ground floor (no access from inside of the hotel though). 189 pp euros for 10-course chef's tasting menu "Discovery" at a 2-Michelin star restaurant is truly a great deal. Refer for more details to our upcoming dedicated review of the place. Wifi: no issues. No password neither room number is needed, just join the network. The room. Our 30 sq meters "Junior Suite" was excellent, nothing to add. The smaller foyer had a sit-down area, complete with a char, a stool and a sizeable couch. 2 closets, or rather 3. 1 small closet in the foyer for your outerwear and a double closet in the bedroom (2 separate sections). Sleep comfort and soundproofing - exemplary. The view: our 6th floor's room offered a very good view of rue du Bac and even La Dame de Fer was visible. A great view is hard to come by in Parisian hotels, so a big plus. Bathroom is very sizeable, with every possible amenity. The towel warmer was especially handy during our January visit. Room furnishings: everything from the sleepers, shoehorn, lint remover, q-tips, bathrobes, etc. Keurig-type coffee/tea making machine. 2 small issues to take into consideration. First, the curtains can't be completely closed to prevent daylight from filtering in. No matter how hard you try, there will be a gap. Secondly, while the main bathroom was very warm due to its adjustable towel warmer, the WC was quite cold. Doesn't matter during warmer months but presents a problem during winter. Overall: a perfect hotel; we can't recommend it...
Read moreWe just stayed at this hotel and I will be honest, incredible rip off for what we paid for. We booked through Chase travel and it just shows we aren’t priority. The total for 3 nights was almost $2K USD and I added my points to take off an extra $550. As we came in, we were greeted nicely I’ll say everyone is super friendly but as we went upstairs to our second floor room, which I wasn’t too thrilled about, the sink couldn’t drain. I then asked can we please move to a higher room and she said that we can do it but you can stay there for one night or another room that is two nights but on the last night you’d have to switch. No where did they try to accommodate. I accepted that it is what it is.
Lastly, on the last 24 hours of the trip, their WiFi is down. Now I get it technical stuff happens. They claimed that it’d get resolved, it never did. I’ve been hearing a tech “come out” for the past 12 hours, and nothing even after overnight. Almost $2K for an outdated hotel with no WiFi? This is a complete joke.
I don’t know how it’s rated a 5 star hotel on Google. It is NOT a 5 star. This is a solid 3 star, you’re paying for “space” in the hotel rooms as they aren’t that small which is probably the only one positive thing at this place. They stopped having room service come to clean our room on the second day when at one time we told them to not come in because we were in the room at the time. We asked once, came back, room still wasn’t cleaned. Second time it was, then normally what i did like on the first night was that they did an evening room service getting your room ready for bed, then after that it stopped.
Also my boyfriend mentioned it was our anniversary prior to arriving. They give you one box of small chocolates and in the note, no note of an anniversary. I don’t even know what they wrote besides welcome to our hotel. Super cheap, and definitely an outdated hotel room. Like really you can’t afford a little bit of nice flowers or a bottle of champagne for almost $2K for 3 nights? It was such a pity offering what they had.
The only 5 star is the location, location is great!
Overall, you can get something better with your money. Way too overpriced for what it is. Not even working internet? Give me a break. Will not stay here again.
These people replied to my post and are just argumentative…. Unbelievable. Who the heck says oh this room is available but for two nights only? That’s why you make it right. What was I going to do? I won’t start a whole situation at the time but I wasn’t happy and not ok with it!!! Do not stay here if you want a nice Paris...
Read moreThank you Pont Royal!! What a splendid way to celebrate our Anniversary and my Birthday! Truly memorable with all of your thoughtful touches. The room, tho small, included everything we could have wanted for sumptuous comfort during our stay in Paris. I must have looked at a hundred hotels, VRBO's as well as their reviews and this hotel stood out. The location was truly ideal- especially given that my husband was recovering from hip replacement a few months prior. We still walked to nearly everywhere- including back from Sacre Coeur. One of my favorite memories of our trip will be sitting out on our terrace gazing at the beautifully lit Sacre Coeur at night. I enjoyed that view even more than the Eiffel Tower (which isn't bad, mind you ☺️) Also~ I should mention, the bed was very comfortable!! and I sure appreciated the bathtub for rejuvenating soaks! But, again, the location cannot be beat! Some favorite restaurants include: Cafe Varrene, Le Bistrot de Paris, Le Jardin and Les Antiquaires (one very thoughtful thing about this restaurant I noticed-as we walked by it often- was that on one particularly chilly morning they had blankets out at each table ❤️) Everywhere we went and everything we saw was just amazingly beautiful but I think my favorite was Saint Chapelle. Do not miss it! The only bummer (and hence following tip) was our one and only experience taking the RER. The station entered is in the front of the Musee d' Orsay, which is an easy walk from this hotel. It's a straight shot to Versailles (not only a palace but a town) I investigated the projected fare and then loaded double onto 2 Navigo cards to be extra safe. Well...turns out that was wrong. You need a special 'Paris to Versailles' ticket because you are going outside the city of Paris (Navigo cards are for inside Paris trains). The cost isn't any more- which I found extra perplexing- but this rookie mistake cost us 2 fines of 35 pounds each 😳 We could have ubered for less. Every other Parisian we met -save this one particularly dedicated and unforgiving train monitor was friendly, helpful and...
