After spending a majority of the day at the Versailles palace, my wife and I were ready for dinner. After browsing a plethora of options (there is not a shortage of dining options in Paris), we agreed to Mexican food. Ironically, the restaurant that we chose, El Guacamole, was a five minute walk from our hotel. Although the inside and outside seating of the restaurant was quite busy, an employee was able to quickly seat us at an indoor community bench that had just become available.
We placed orders for the following: Frozen Margarita (wife), Frozen Passion Fruit Margarita (myself), Nachos Con Queso, Choriqueso Quesadilla (wife), and Deshebrada de Res Burrito (myself). The delicious drinks arrived five minutes later and the food arrived in less than 15 minutes. The Nachos Con Queso was a delicious starter that we shared and set the expectations for what I thought would be a good overall meal. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
Respectfully, the food lacked flavor. My burrito probably would have been good if served with sauce, same with my wife’s quesadilla. We both used the remaining sauce from the Nachos Con Queso to add the desired flavor. Knowing that we had to doctor up our own food, I cannot give a positive review in good faith.
We reside in California where the bar is set pretty high for good, authentic Mexican food. Therefore, maybe I should have lowered my expectations for Mexican food in Paris. This review is solely my opinion of our experience, I suggest trying the restaurant for yourself to form your...
Read moreI’m surprised there were people at the location. I never leave reviews unless it’s the best thing I’ve ever eaten.
First of all, this has been the worse horchata I’ve ever tried in my entire life. If I wanted water with just cinnamon, I would’ve asked for that.
I had an Al Pastor taco and it was missing that char you get from la plancha. The meat was juicy but it barely had any adobo flavor.
The carnitas burrito was also missing flavor and that char. The salsas were the only redeeming things, they helped to elevate the nonexistent flavors. The salsa matcha was good. I think it’s a red flag if your salsas taste better than the food, just saying.
Not sure if they’re toning down the flavor compound for Parisians but I wouldn’t say so. I tried some French food with amazing flavor profiles so not sure what’s going on here.
Having visited many parts of Mexico and having both parents born and raised in Mexico, it frustrates me that Parisians are being served my culture’s food in this type of setting.
I never leave reviews but as a Mexican-American, this appalled me.
If you ever wondered what authentic Mexican food tastes like, this...
Read moreIf I had to write an ultimate guide to the best Mexican restaurants in Paris then I would definitely include El Guacamole for the following reasons -
First off, the location of the restaurant is great. So, if you are in the same district it will not be difficult to fine and, you can eat here.
The food is great and they serve lunch, and dinner.
The food is fresh and flavourful. They have a variety of vegetarian and non - veg options on the menu that you can choose from.
Do not miss out the margaritas as they are super alcoholic and once you start it might be hard to resist another one.
The pricing is just about right. Value for meal.
It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, there is always a long line of people waiting to be seated. So you should not be surprised if you have to wait a little.
Lastly, the employees are super friendly and iut is really hard to convey through words just how awesome El...
