My dining experience at this Vietnamese restaurant was extremely disappointing. While the food was acceptable, the staff's behavior was completely unprofessional and ruined the meal. The Food The quality of the food was just okay. The dishes were simple and lacked any real flair. It's the kind of place that might be popular with local workers looking for a cheap and quick lunch, but for a tourist hoping for an authentic culinary experience, it definitely falls short. The Service The service was the worst part of the experience. The staff was neither friendly nor welcoming. We ordered three dishes, but one of them—a sandwich—never arrived. When we brought it to the attention of a staff member after our meal was over, they simply took the receipt and acted like we were done and should leave. I then asked another staff member if they could at least pack the unserved sandwich for takeout. To my surprise, the cook responded by saying they were out of chicken. It was incredibly frustrating that we were never informed about this when we placed the order or at any point during our meal. There was no attempt to offer an alternative, which I found to be both disrespectful and poor customer service. Overall Impression Overall, I left feeling completely disrespected and disappointed. This restaurant may be known for its cheap prices, which could explain its popularity with local workers, but the lack of quality service makes it a place I would not recommend...
Read moreNot worth it, really. I paid 31 euro for a starter (2 beef spring rolls that I can swear were prepared many hours before, as the rice paper was dry), a beef pho bo and a small beer. The pho bo was tasty, but totally nondescript, it was as exactly as dozens of other pho bos I've had at a much lower price.
My guess is that half the price is actually for the area, as the restaurant is a bus stop away from the Arc en Triomphe. The same for the next door shop, Sushi 2007, which I visited last year, mediocre and horribly overpriced, but I guess that's Paris for you. And yet, I am amazed Hanoi Etoile has such a good rating. I guess we got used to gobble whatever they put in front of us, clients should be more discerning. Oh, and the server at Hanoi Etoile tried to convince me to pay cash, so my guess is they don't declare...
Read moreNot a good dining experience. I ask the lady taking our order for water to drink. She brings out bottled Evian water when every table around us has regular water from a pitcher. I politely decline and tell her we want the pitcher in which she rolls her eyes and reluctantly brings it over. Pho is decent. When coming to pay, the person before me pays with a card but then asks me to pay cash and says no card. I must of been wearing my American flag tourist jacket or something. I’m pointing at the card processing machine but she plays the I don’t understand English but cash is loud and clear. I don’t want to make a big deal so I pay and my wife asks for a little more water in which the server seems to not understand the universal signal of holding the cup up and...
