This hotel is average. I am writing this review to inform future guests that it is definitely NOT a four-star hotel. It is extremely overpriced for what it is—unless you prioritize a spacious room (the deluxe room is spacious, NOT the standard, just to be clear) and being close to Champs Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe. The hotel building has air conditioning but only in the summer months, or whenever the staff/building decides to switch the thermostats to A/C; you cannot control whether you have heat or AC from your room thermostat. The TV is an old, 32-inch—it is NOT a smart TV so you will not have access to Netflix, etc. Furthermore, we had trouble when we plugged our Firestick into the USB at first..this is how old the TV is. There is no fridge in your room, which I understand is common in Europe, however, for a “four-star” hotel? My husband and I asked for a wine opener so that we could enjoy a bottle of wine in our room, however the staff informed us that they only have one wine opener for the entire hotel and they had already lent it out to another guest…the following afternoon, we attempted to ask for it again and not only was it still missing, the woman at the reception desk had to use her personal opener that she retrieved from her bag (that was very kind of her). Continuing on…We called down to reception for a bottle of water at around 23h00 and the gentleman at reception said there is no one available to bring it to our room..we would have to go down to retrieve it. Furthermore, we had to use our personal cellphone to call them because the phone in the room looks like a Nokia circa 2000…I can read French fluently and could not figure out this device. If this hotel was around 150euro, it may be worth the price, but for over 300 euros per night in October, it felt like an absolute rip-off. My husband and I relocated (5 minute drive, 15 minute walk) to a Hotel Augustine—Astotel on 9 Rue Roy and had a FAR better experience for 150euro per night (free drinks in mini fridge in room, personal AC in room, free snacks at mini bar in...
Read moreMy sister and I decided to start off our trip in Paris and booked Royal Garden Hotel based off the room size (we originally booked a suite with terrace), other reviews, and location. Overall, I would never stay here again and even felt the need to write this review to share the experience.||Rooms: Not great and not an accurate representation of their photos. We booked one of their suites with a terrace expecting a comfortable and nice room. Safe to say that the layout was incredibly awkward that it did not feel like more space than a simple basic room. The view of the terrace was also just a wall and the room was very dark. We decided to change our room and downgrade to a room with an actual street view and some natural light. They accommodated that but refused us to pay the difference and instead accommodated us by giving us a slightly larger room for our last two days (I understood this).||Staff: The staff members were either fantastic or just horrible (all the assumptions that some French people are incredibly rude was proved correct). Some were very helpful and professional while others would just talk horribly about you right in front of you, assuming you don’t understand. Ridiculous. The classic eye rolls and negative comments.||Location: The location was actually VERY central and had a lot of walkable cafes and good spots nearby.||You’d think that your hotel is not the most important thing while traveling but honestly, it makes all of the difference. A good room (or what you are at least EXPECTING) helps you rest and prepped for all the travels. A good staff helps recommend fun spots or good restaurants nearby - making the experience more authentic. They do NOT talk badly about you or make you feel annoying for asking for basic things that a hotel guest would.||Honestly, we wish we just booked a simple cute 3-star at half the price because the rooms would have been cuter/nicer and a friendlier welcome...
Read moreWe got a free room upgrade to a wonderful room (thanks!). Bathroom good, shower pressure not great but that's Paris for you.
The check-in was the slowest Ive ever experienced, in Paris or elsewhere. There were no other guests checking in, and the guy on reception led us to sofas while he did paperwork at the computer and wandered around a few times chatting to colleagues. There was no information given about the hotel (facilities, breakfast etc) no map was shown ("we are here, you have lots around..., here is the closest metro..."). He looked unhappy in his work and this feed through to us. There was a fridge in the room but nothing in it, no minibar. There was no food available at night by room service. There were only two coffee pods (not exactly pods but enough to make two coffees) provided each day. One regular and one decaf. Not enough. We asked the night reception guy for fresh milk so I could make tea and this was a very new request to him (!?). He was friendly though and brought up a jug of it - perfect. All in all the place looks like a 4* but doesn't have the staff ratio to justify that, I think the was only one person working overnight so he had to leave reception open the kitchen and bring it up to our room - like a one-man-band. A 4* with lots of rooms needs more than nice decor, it needs...
