KINGKONG — Restaurant in Paris

This restaurant is quite well hidden in a small street near metro station Strasbourg Saint-Denis. By the look of the exterior I probably wouldn’t have entered had I not checked Google reviews before… as the decor was somber and didn’t give an appetizing look to be honest.

However the food proved me wrong, we ordered lunch menu with the fried chicken as starter and bibimbap as main dish. The fried chicken was divine! So juicy and not greasy at all, the sweet and slightly spicy sauce blended perfectly with the batter, very delicious! The bibimbap itself was great too, it contained lots of ingredients especially vegetables, as they continued to cook in the stone ball they created a nice texture and taste together with the rice. I ordered the squid one, I should maybe have taken the beef and porc version as the squid was a bit chewy and not a lot of flavor. The other small negative point was probably that they were not very generous with the the pickled side dishes (see photo).

Overall I had a good dining experience and will definitely go back to try other dishes.

Update: we went back for the fried chicken and rice sticks, super delicious and you wouldn’t tell they were deep...

Service exécrable et personnel irrespectueux. Dès notre arrivée, on nous parle sèchement, le serveur souffle quand on demande le menu papier et nous ignore quand on veut commander. Les plats arrivent à la dernière minute, et à peine le temps de manger, on nous met dehors sans aucun respect. Quand je lui fais remarquer son comportement, il me dit : "Si t’es pas content, mets un avis sur Google." Voilà, c’est fait. À fuir ! 🚨

J’ai bien pris connaissance de votre réponse et je tiens à préciser quelques points sur mon expérience :

Effectivement, on m’a informée que le service se terminait à 14h30, ce que j’ai accepté. Cependant, plusieurs tables sont restées jusqu’à 14h45 sans être pressées de partir. Lorsque le serveur est venu me demander de partir, j’ai simplement demandé deux minutes pour finir mon plat, mais il s’est immédiatement agacé et a commencé à parler d’un ton hautain et irrespectueux, en insistant sur le fait qu’il m’avait déjà laissé 15 minutes de plus. Les derniers clients venaient tout juste de partir, et à peine étaient-ils sortis qu’il est venu me dire de partir à mon tour.

Concernant la carte, lorsque j’ai demandé un menu papier, le serveur m’a répondu d’un ton condescendant en insinuant que c’était mon téléphone le problème, alors qu’il aurait pu répondre de manière plus professionnelle. Son attitude était désagréable dès le début, donnant l’impression qu’il ne souhaitait pas nous accueillir.

Enfin, concernant la rapidité du service, mon plat n’a pas été servi en 3 minutes mais bien plus tard, aux alentours de 14h15. J’avais commandé deux plats, ce qui prend naturellement un certain temps à être préparé. Au moment où j’ai demandé quelques minutes supplémentaires, le restaurant n’était pas encore en train de fermer, le personnel était encore en train de débarrasser et de faire la vaisselle.

Ce qui est le plus regrettable, ce n’est pas tant l’horaire de fermeture, mais l’attitude du serveur, qui a continué à me parler de manière irrespectueuse jusqu’à mon départ. D’ailleurs, lorsque je lui ai fait remarquer son comportement, il m’a répondu sèchement de laisser un avis Google, ce que je fais aujourd’hui.

I cant rate the food since I didn’t get to eat it. We entered and were told that since the third person hasn’t arrived yet, they will put us in a table for 2. Annoying but it’s understandable. The two of us then wanted to order a starter to share, waiting for the third person and they flat out refused. We either had to wait for the third person to arrive before being served our main dishes or we had to order for her right away and let it get cold. And mind you, the entire restaurant was empty…so I don’t understand why they couldn’t sit us on a table for 3 to begin with, and then refused to serve us a starter while we waited for the 3rd.
