The hotel is clean, well located, and has a nice aesthetic but is truly lacking some basic things. For starters, we arrived early around 10:30 AM. Understandably, the room wasn’t ready, so we left our bags and returned after 4 pm but the room was still not ready and our bags were still downstairs in the lobby. We waited and eventually dragged them upstairs ourselves despite the hotel having porters. There is a "guest" elevator but it is completely useless since it’s being used exclusively by the housekeeping staff all day. Case in point: during the first few days of our one week stay, we decided to wait for the elevator (on average a 10 min wait). When it finally arrived, it would be full of giant bags of towels and toiletries, so we’d end up taking the stairs anyway. This would be okay if it wasn’t falsely advertised as a guest elevator so we wouldn’t waste our time waiting. Keep in mind this is supposedly a 4-star hotel. Now, the worst part. On the second day of our stay, the bathroom ceiling started leaking, flooding the bathroom & destroying a bunch of our toiletries. I informed the cleaning staff outside who then promptly called the manager but no one came. After waiting for 20 mins, watching the dirty water seep into the bedroom and our bags, I frantically went down to the reception, but the staff simply shrugged and said “Yeah we know, my colleague will check in.” I went back, waited another 20 mins as the gross water created horrible smell in the room. We moved to a new room (30 mins later) where the bathroom was somehow even smaller. No one seemed to care about the whole ordeal beyond the obligatory “oops, we’re sorry.” We complained at the reception that the issue wasn’t handled well and while most hotels would just give us an upgrade, or some hotel credit or at least be more apologetic, as part of making up for the experience, we were instead moved into an even smaller room. About the destroyed toiletries, at first they dismissed it and then condescendingly told us they can compensate” us for the products destroyed if we make a list. They did offer to switch us to a similar room next door, which was also small. I don’t think the staff is mean or rude in any way, but it seems like they simply can’t be bothered if you’re having a bad experience and need to be trained to handle these situations with some basic care and concern. Overall, despite a few positives, the indifferent service, lack of basic customer care expected at a 4 star hotel, and mismanagement, I don’t at all advise booking this hotel. Save your $300/per night. There are plenty of nice hotels in the neighborhood that’d either offer better service or simply...
Read moreMy wife and I unfortunately had a very poor experience at this hotel while staying for business. The service was the main point of negativity, and though we've stayed in many Paris hotels, for the money this was a very poor level of service.
We were there for fashion week, and as per normal, invitations for fashion shows are forwarded to the hotels. Half of my wife's invitations went missing after our room was cleaned, though they were stacked on the desk. The housekeeping manager was sent up to speak to us, and she was very rude to us and annoyed because we did not speak French. This was obviously a very negative point for us, as it's not our fault. We didn't make a big thing out of this, but it is obviously very annoying and not sure who took the invitations. All of the staff were pretty unhelpful in general.
Overall, things are very disorganised. Our keys broke every single day, and we kept having to go to the desk to have them redone. We expressed annoyance at this, however it didn't seem to help. It's more annoying because the hotel also has one small lift, which is fine, it's Paris after all. However, the housekeeping staff get annoyed at you if you actually have to use it during the day. In most hotels they'll let you use it before them, especially when you're in a rush to get to a meeting.
Our company's travel manager extended our stay before arrival as well, however halfway through our stay I received a phone call saying we were supposed to have checked out and we had overstayed. I explained we had our stay extended long before, but this took a while for them to figure it out downstairs. Also our travel manager was very annoyed, because despite extending the stay with the same provisions and price, they didn't include breakfast for the further days and made us pay on check out. The breakfast is pretty average as well so obviously wasn't thrilled about this.
The room isn't great for the price, and the main showerhead was broken. Only the smaller hand shower head worked. For a hotel at that price which recently opened, this is very poor.
The location is good, which is a positive point. And if the staff had been kinder and more accommodating, I wouldn't be leaving this review, but unfortunately I think it should be noted this was the...
Read moreNot only is the hotel itself in a fantastic location (in the 3rd arrondissement across from a charming little park!), but it is also decorated to a T: a very sassy, fun, modern Architectural Digest kinda style with on-trend furniture, quirky details/objets, and pops of color throughout. Since we opted to not take the bus and just walk (from Châtelet Les Halles which was the station we arrived into via the RER train from CDG airport), it was about a 10-15 minute walk to the hotel - which isn't the MOST fun walk when you have a suitcase, but it was definitely manageable and you could still just enjoy the sights (fun cafes, shops, and architecture) of the city along your walk. OR you can just take the bus. :)
Upon arrival, the hotel staff was very sweet and said they could check us in even though we were several hours early! They handed us both bottles of sparkling water and had us wait a few short minutes in the adorable sitting room while they did their thing. And not only did they check us in early, they upgraded our room to a suite which we were pleasantly surprised by and so incredibly appreciative of.
We returned home (to Los Angeles) almost a week ago now, but even just yesterday, my fiancé and I were talking about just how much we loved Solly and that we need to stay there anytime we're in Paris! I've even spread the word about Solly to my friends in order to do my part in terms of "Solly PR" - as it's the least I can do in return for their wonderful service and the unforgettable memories they've left us with.
My only regret is that we were constantly out-and-about and so we didn't have time to enjoy all the amenities that the hotel had to offer, including the beautiful looking cafe/dining room. But I suppose there's always next time as we definitely plan to return!
And amongst all the bad press that's going around about 'the city of Paris currently being overrun with bedbugs', we certainly did not have that problem whatsoever. Solly hotel is newly renovated, incredibly clean and tidy so much so that I barely saw a speck of dust - and so we arrived back home worry-free and bedbug-free. :)
We will certainly be back. Thank you.
