I was very disappointed with my experience here. After a difficult 48 hours and a night at the hospital, I chose this restaurant to relax and enjoy the street view. I ordered a crepe and tea. While the tea was nice, it arrived without the milk and honey I requested, and the crepe was underwhelming.
There were five tables at the front. I sat at one of the empty tables, but shortly after ordering, I was asked to move to the back for a hypothetical group of four. Despite my nerve issue and disability, which made the wooden bench at the back uncomfortable, I obliged. But this meant I had to sit facing a wall, which completely negated my reason for choosing this restaurant. I would have preferred to move when such a group arrived rather than in anticipation of one.
What upset me, however, was seeing another solo diner be given the seat I was moved from. When a group of four finally arrived, the other group left, freeing up a table. When my crepe arrived I politely asked to move back to the front, but the waiter said, “I will have to ask my chef,” which baffled me, why did he need to ask if I wasn’t going to be preventing a larger group from sitting there? I pointed out that a solo diner was sitting where I was moved from, and he agreed to ask.
The chef explained, “You were moved because you only ordered a crepe and she is ordering meat and it is lunch.” Had this been communicated initially, I would have ordered more to keep my seat. It was dishonest of them to allow me to order and then move me based on my order but lie about the reason, they should have moved me before I ordered and I could have chosen to leave at that point. I didn’t even want the crepe or tea, but felt obligated to stay precisely because I had already ordered.
As a result, I had to sit facing a wall, eating a crepe and drinking tea I didn’t want, while the front table remained unused and the seat I was refused was used as a bag rest. The lack of clear communication and disregard for my comfort and experience was very hurtful and disappointing. This experience ruined my entire visit to what looked like a charming...
Read moreThis was an absolutely superb find. We were visiting Paris to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary and wanted somewhere special for our celebratory meal. We had done some research online before arriving and had shortlisted a few restaurants in the area, all which looked really nice. Many of the more formal restaurants just felt a little soulless and we wanted to make this a special event. After walking past L'Eclair we were drawn in by it's very warm and quirky decor. We decided to go for drinks the night before our anniversary and were smitten by the whole experience. We had a great night, sampling their cocktails and sharing a superb platter of snacks. The staff were excellent and the place had a really vibrant atmosphere so we decided to book a table for the following night to celebrate our anniversary. We arrived the following night a were very warmly welcomed and shown to our table which we had chosen the night before, sat under the 'parrot'. Again the atmosphere was very warm, friendly and vibrant. The food is superb. The menu is relatively small, which is good as they can ensure that everything is cooked to perfection, but there is enough choice to satisfy everyone. We started off with snails (which my wife hadn't tried before) and smoked salmon. for main we had steak tartare and marinated chicken, both superb, then finished with a beautiful cheesecake and an absolutely gorgeous chocolate dessert. The whole night was faultless, the service, the food, the drink and the atmosphere. I would not hesitate to revisit this little gem of a bistro the next time we are in Paris and I cannot recommend it...
Read moreThis is where I got the best burger I’ve ever had. That is not even an exaggeration. When I went to Paris for my holidays my family and I stumbled across this cafe and we ordered food. It is situated in a small road where few cars come past, if any, so the atmosphere was very calming. The waiters were incredible. I learn my French at school for my gcse (general secondary school exams) and I got to speak and order food from the waiters in French. They made me feel very confident and one even helped me with how to order a steak or burger. I got the cheese burger and it was nothing like I had ever tasted before. It was incredible and I could barely believe what I was eating. I begged my parents to take us back the following day and we did. I ordered the same burger and then crépes. To this day, I still dream of going to cafe l’eclair again and I have told almost everyone I know about how wonderful it was. This is, without a doubt, my favourite place to eat. My one negative is that there is no cafe l’eclair at my doorstep in London. Thank you for making the best burger I’ve ever had and really adding to my...
