I will preface this by stating when my wife and I travel to Europe we typically want to stay in hotels that are well located, reasonably priced and clean. We are not looking for high end frills and if you want the frills this will not be the place for you. Having said that this hotel is exceptionally located on Rue du Champ de Mars, literally a 30 second walk from Rue Cler in the 7th. The Metro is less than 10 minuets away as well as the RER train station. There are multiple restaurants on Rue Cler and you're a 10 minute walk from 3 of Christain Constants restaurants. The Eiffel Tower is 15 minutes away and the Rodin Museum about 20. The hotel is clean and the staff is attentive to your needs. The downside to all this is there is no air conditioning. The windows open and you get a great breeze but this would make the hotel a 3 season choice. We were there last week and the high temperatures were low 70's so it was not a problem. Lastly this can be either pro or con half of the rooms overlook the Rue Cler area and can be very noisy late at night. If you need quiet to sleep you need to request a room over the courtyard, I actually like hearing the action so it was not a problem for us. Would stay here again on future visits provided I'm not visiting during the...
Read moreWe ended our month long stay in Europe with four nights at the Hotel Champs du Mars, and feel it was our best hotel find of the trip. First of all, the location. It was easy to access from the Escole Militarie Metro and a few steps from the pedestrian Rue Cler. This neighborhood street is lined with cafes, and small local shops for flowers, vegetables, chocolates, cheese, wine and pastries. We could sit at a café in the mornings and observe all the parents walking their children to school and get a flavor of Paris residential life. After we booked, we actually found a Rick Steves walking tour online of the two block Rue Cler. Listen to it to get an accurate feel of the neighborhood. We walked to the Eiffel Tower and easily picked up the ubiquitous rental bikes on the corner. Our room was spotless and a good size for Europe, the bathroom very up to date. The hotel is small, but the front desk is staffed 24 hours. They were always very friendly and helpful. We booked a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower, which probably wasn’t necessary, as it is only a peak, but the windows which opened up on the street below were nice. We feel the hotel was...
Read moreThe staff were friendly, professional, and customer service oriented. The location in the 7eme arrondissement was great with many types of public transport available. The neighborhood was a mix of residential buildings, retail shops and restaurants of all types on lower floors of the buildings, Rue Clear was mostly pedestrian with minor vehicle traffic. The walking distance to the Eiffel Tower was approximately 10-15 mins. depending on the route you take. For us as a couple we decided on one of the smaller and cozier rooms facing away from the street which was more quiet and private and easier to sleep late if one wanted to.
The hotel was undergoing some minor remodeling and painting which left the lobby and bathrooms with a freshened look and paint which really did not affect our stay in any way. The front desk staff, especially the gentleman and lady who work the morning and afternoon shifts were always pleasant and very helpful with requesting taxi services and any inquiries we may have about dining, tourism, or anything else in the area.
This is my second time at the hotel and very much look forward to my...
