L'Anecdote — Restaurant in Paris

I just think the reviews are too high for this. My food was ok. Slightly overcooked hardboiled eggs with some mayonnaise on top. A “salad” made of iceberg lettuce and one tomato. The tartare was decent. It was a bit lower than food one could make at home, just at a higher price.

The big put off was when I approached the restaurant I saw two guys smoking outside so I went inside to hopefully get fresher air. As soon as I sat down they came in and it turns out they were the workers. I’m sure the chef washed his hands, at least I would want to assume so. The server did not however. I wanted to leave the second I saw this but it was getting late and needed some dinner. Halfway through my meal the server went outside to start smoking again and even though I was inside I could smell it all.

Definitely a disappointment. Definitely not a 4.7 in terms of either experience or food....

I stumbled onto l'Anecdote while looking for a grocery store. It is tucked back into a neighborhood close to the train station at gate de Lyon. What caught my eye was they served steak tar tar. When ready for dinner that night, we went there for the tar tar. What a fun experience. So genuine, so friendly, despite that they did not speak a lick of English, we got by. Decent selection of draft beers, excellent choice of wines, very reasonable prices for both food and drinks. . Pleasant background music. A total mix of patrons. It was such a pleasant experience, we returned a few days later to the same vibe. This time for the duck ( confit de canard Maison) OMG GOOD The owner treated us to an after dinner cheese plate ( on the house)....

Hands down sweetest service people I've had the pleasure to meet in Paris. Absolutely recommended food; they do have a particular style though so if you happened to eat there too regularly you may feel déjà vu-ish. They knew I couldn't speak French and they took the time to explain each dish. They also have good WiFi. Draws a French crowd large enough to fill it every lunch.
