Really struggled to rate my lunch here. The vibe was good, service was a bit busy but courteous. The food tasted alright but, how should I put it? Let's just say I didn't leave feeling content.
Apparently only the weekend menu is served during the weekend. There's no a la carte option. It's almost double the price of their weekday lunch set but it includes everything from starter and water to dessert and hot drinks, so that's alright. Since there were two options under each item, the two of us conveniently tried everything.
For the starters, the egg dish was quite nice. The homemade terrine was ok by itself but overpowered by the meat sauce. Also the yellow dollop of sauce felt more like halloandaise than anything mustardy or foamy. Didn't know the lack of balance and missing of element would persist throughout the rest of the menu.
For the mains, the fish was cooked to the right consistency. The main seasoning was in the charred leek which was delicious. But everything tasted a bit too sweet when the pumpkin ginger puree was mixed in. Only when I saw the same dish of the other table and cross-checked the menu did I realise that it's missing something - the green lovage sauce. Alas, I was already having dessert at that time.
The meat of the day was lamb which was also cooked well but the seasoning was again too sweet. And I later found that interestingly it's presentation was also different from the same dish of other tables.
For dessert, I couldn't tell whether the fig had really been roasted, but the dish was delicious overall albeit missing the would-be fragrant and bitter contrast of any charred parts. As for the mount blanc, the homemade coffee ice cream in the centre was exquisite but there was too little of it to contrast the thick layer of sweet mousse outside. This could have been a stellar dessert if the balance was done right.
Overall, this could have been one of the better meals during my stay in Paris. Oh I only...
Read moreStrongly recommended by my artist friends to visit « L’inaperçu » . It’s one leading French photography bookstore, librairie de photographie. This photography art bookstore is running on a curatorial model. The display layout of new books or collections is completely different from the five photography bookstores that you find in Paris. It has close contacts with the French photography art circle and photography galleries.
After your cultural visit, what do you fancy for lunch ? Perfect, the photography bookstore propose a western restaurant and coffee shop. It's also a new concept.
Furthermore the photography bookstore is located in the “Centre Pompidou”, or more familiarly “Beaubourg” area. – a multidisciplinary establishment to create in the heart of Paris an original cultural institution entirely dedicated to modern and contemporary creation. where the visual arts would rub shoulders with books, drawing, music, performing arts, activities for young audiences, as...
Read moreWe were expecting decent food and service after all the reviews, but walked into an empty restaurant. The ambiance is quite bright and modern. The starters were all really good and so were the wines we chose. The main meals were not as good, but come with lots of veggies as others have said. The vegetables are almost as important as the rest of the meal. The desserts we ordered (matcha, cheesecake, and pavlova) were all a bit of a disappointment except the matcha cake. In the end, it was overpriced for the quality of the food. Also, my daughter was charged for a formule when it would have been cheaper for her to pay for all the items separately. The waiter insisted that they had made her main course bigger to accommodate the formule, but she didn't request it to start with. So she ended up paying 10€ more because the waiter refused to budge. Service was...
