Not a safe place to stay. The owner forced us to tell him our room number and provide feedback on the room as we attempted to exit for the day, then they argued about our feedback, then laughed at us, then tried to close the front door on us and tell us to go away. After going back inside I very nearly had to call the police to get the owner to stop harassing us and blocking the room doorway so that my wife and I could pack our things and leave. After a bad night in our room we were late for our plans and in a hurry to go out. The man at the desk (who later claimed to be the owner) demanded our room number, and asked how the room was. I didn’t know the room number by memory and we told them we had to leave, but they demanded repeatedly. I told them and then mentioned that the room was terrible and we exited the building. Then the owner and another employee ran out and repeatedly asked us what was wrong with the room. We said we had to leave but they persisted. We told them that it smelled very bad (musty), possibly from the curtains which appeared to be extremely old (or maybe general mold), and that the shower door was not properly sealed and the shower flooded the bathroom (my pregnant wife slipped and fortunately didn’t fall), and that the heat could not be turned off and the room was too hot (and had no ventilation without running the heat more), and that there was no place to hang towels (I think there was a towel warmer but it was dirty and nothing would fit). They proceeded to argue about the smell and state that it was cleaning products. It was not. The hotel has been remodeled recently (with poor workmanship throughout) but a bad smell remains in that room at least. We kept trying to leave and they kept trying to convince us our complaints weren’t legitimate. I finally mentioned my last issue that the toilet was too small. I’m 6’1 200 lbs - not a giant. I have seen these toilets around the world. I know it’s not like they’re going to change the toilet out, but using it was very unpleasant and we were being interrogated about the room - sadly he wasn’t mature enough to handle potty talk with the grownups. When I said the toilet was too small the employee laughed and then attempted to shoo us away. He attempted to retreat into the hotel and shut us out, closing the door on my foot. At this point I knew we had to leave even though we were booked for another night. I demanded a refund for the second night since they attempted to kick us out of our own hotel after laughing at our complaints. They continued to argue and demand we switch rooms rather than leave. After I gave up on a refund the owner followed me up the stairs and continued to argue and wouldn’t move aside so I could let my wife in the room. For minutes at this point I was demanding that he stop harassing us. It was the most absurdly inappropriate thing I’ve ever encountered in a...
Read moreDon’t let the positive reviews fool you. Please do not stay here. The rooms are not safe and the owners are incredibly rude. Our first night here, we walked into our room and noticed a musty/moldy smell instantly and the smell would not go away. Then when I went to take a shower, the door would not properly shut (after attempting many times) and it flooded the entire bathroom. When I came out of the shower, I slipped and nearly fell. I am 3 months pregnant and was pretty worried at this point about the hazardous red flags just mentioned. The room was extremely hot and there was no airflow. You couldn’t control the air and could only open the window but you can kiss a good night of sleep if you have to do that since the streets were insanely loud. Even with the window closed, it was really loud. After sleeping it off, we decided that maybe we would talk to the hotel after we got back from our activities for the day. We had a late start and wanted to get in and out quickly but the hotel proceeded to shout at us multiple times when we came down demanding for our room number. We gave it to them but told them we are running late and need to get on with our day. They (two workers that claimed to be the owners) then proceeded to follow us outside demanding that we tell them how the room is and when we finally gave the feedback after trying to leave to start our day (and told them we would discuss this when we’re back later), they did not take us seriously (trying to refute everything we mentioned) and laughed at our complaints. One of the owners slammed the hotel door in our face and ended up closing the door on my husband’s foot. At this point my husband and I are furious that they would treat paying customers like this. We asked for a refund and they refused so we said we were not staying here anymore and went up to grab our things. The other owner then proceeded to harassed us all the way up to our room and blocked the room door arguing with my husband so I couldn’t get inside to pack my things. I’ve never experienced anything like this from a hotel and can assure you we will NEVER return back to this hotel and will spread the word to our friends and family to not stay there as well. Do yourself a favor and find a...
Read moreFirst the summary, then will provide additional details for those interested in more. My daughter wanted to visit Paris this month (June 2025) for a graduation gift, and I had two objectives in mind: find a hotel within walking distance to the major historical and cultural treasures of the city; and secondly, to be around $250 per night in total hotel costs. Going only on what I read in online reviews, I booked Hotel de Roubaix, since it met both objectives, and hoped for the best. My daughter and I could not have been more pleased with the hotel. Spotless, efficiently run, accommodating, gracious staff and owner, ideal location, well-priced. I recommend this hotel without hesitation. |Now some details. First, hotel management. The owner, Christophe Coineau, is a hands-on owner-operator who demonstrated pride of ownership. He was gracious, generous, welcoming. |The hotel staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Friendly, quick to please and assist. |The atmosphere of the hotel was as inviting as the staff. The walls are covered with art and collectibles, all clean and dust-free. The artwork found on almost every surface of the public areas of the hotel was novel and interesting, focused on various themes of French culture: fashion, famous models, all things car (LeMans), Warhol-style pop-art. |The rooms were basic but clean and modern. Both mattresses were firm and seemed newer, the bedding was spotless and well laundered. The tiled bathroom was a bit tight but with all new fixtures and spotless. |The breakfast service was very well done. The breakfast room itself was friendly and inviting, with walls of rough stone and good lighting. Colorful stoneware and metal utensils were at each place setting. The variety of breads, cheeses, eggs, jellies and breakfast meats exceeded what I would have expected at a two-star hotel. |The location was ideal. The Louvre was a 15 minute walk, Notre Dame maybe 20 minutes. The neighborhoods surrounding the hotel are packed with cafes and restaurants. Two neighborhood markets/grocery stores were less than a block away. |If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, affordable, and friendly hotel with a great location, I would...
