La Felicità — Restaurant in Paris

I really wanted to like La Felicita, I had high expectations- and I think that's the problem. This place is just too big and too popular for its own good. The Big Mama chain has done a great thing for Paris- you get it all. Decor, service, ambiance, price, and FOOD. Its hard for the average Joe to have all that in the world's most expensive city. So when La Felicita opened, in the biggest foodcourt of Europe- I was so excited. I tried to go twice in summer, but gave up seeing the line curving around the building- I finally succeeded in November during a quiet Thursday lunch hour. First thing thats a turn off... where the hell is this place?? Station F, the huge warehouse La Felicita is located in, is full of other start ups and the entry is not at all clear. I walked through two doors only to have to go back outside. No signs, nothing to say where La Felucita is located. Its freezing but I persevere. I go to the southern side and find the entry, with No Line! SCORE! I am greeted by a friendly hostess who gives me a map. A map? I don't want a map- I want to eat! Well La Felicita isn't a restaurant. Its Europe's version of a high class food court. And this just can't work. The reason Food Courts work so well in the USA, is because they are pushing out a ton of food, in a little amount of time. There's a reason its called FAST FOOD! This quality of food can't be made fresh quickly. So what La Felicita has done is separate all their dishes to their own food stands. Hamburgers are in one spot, pasta another. Go this way for your starter, and in the opposite corner you have dessert. My favorite Big Mama dish is their pizza. I've never had a better pizza. But at La Felicita on this chilly November morning, I had to wait outside in a line for 20 minutes to puget it myself. Not a big deal, I was in no hurry- but this got me to thinking how disappointing this would be with my husband or even a group. Unless everyone wants the same thing, there's a good chance you all will be eating at different times. For example, my husband prefers pasta so he would have to go wait in the pasta line, while I wait for my pizza. And since his pasta will probably be ready sooner than the pizza, he will either have to wait or eat without me. The other thing that didnt sit right with me was the fact that despite I'm waiting for the food, and I'm seating myself- the prices are still the same as the other Big Mama restaurants. Personally I'd rather pay more and have table service. The positives: the pizza guys are really entertaining to watch, they do little tricks with the giant pizza scoopers and rap to whatever music is playing.
