We booked a table for four at this restaurant after reading its positive reviews. Since we weren’t very hungry, we decided to share some dishes. When we received the menu, we planned to order two plates of steak and one risotto to share among us. However, before we could finalize our order, the server, in a rude and condescending tone, interrupted us and said, “This is a restaurant for eating, and if you’re here, you must order for four people. Everyone needs to have their own main course!”
We were shocked by how unfriendly and dismissive she was. We politely explained that we weren’t very hungry and that we simply enjoyed sharing food, but she responded with disdain, saying if we wanted to share, we’d have to pay an additional €5. Her attitude made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.
Later, when we considered ordering a dessert to share, we were so hesitant to ask because of her earlier behavior and the way she had spoken to us. She did come back to apologize and explain that it was the restaurant’s policy, but by then, the damage was done.
While the food was good, the experience was ruined by the hostile and unprofessional customer service. We left feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and dissatisfied, despite the quality...
Read moreThe previous reviews were positive; family feel, ample portions, friendly service. Our experience started with two out of the three. Family feel, food great, yet the lady owner seemed a little, shall we say, aloof to start. Our French was not good and with the only other guests in the restaurant being a table with a raucous American attached, maybe she was over people who can’t speak French, or we reminded her of the English. We actually ordered more food than we really wanted to perhaps bring her around. Or maybe she’s just like a lot of French in hospitality; they’re just grumpy. After 5 weeks in France we were a little over it. Anyway, to our surprise she lightened up when we congratulated her on the wonderful food she’d presented to us. It was great. The restaurant had been around since 1913, so plenty of time to pass on the French etiquette when serving foreigners. Apart from all that, well worth the visit. I’ll remember her lovely smile as we...
Read moreWhat I really appreciate about this restaurant isn't just the food - it's fantastic - but the attention to detail in the experience; the decor, the lighting, the low music, the kind and welcoming staff. The general ambience gave it the feel of fine dining, without the pretension or complexity.
We arrived quite late (though perhaps not by Parisian standards), around 9:30, without reservation, and we didn't feel at all rushed or pressured, the timing of the courses was perfect and we could have sat at that window table for another hour watching the world go by.
The prices were very reasonable for the level of food and service on offer - we wouldn't have gotten half as good quality in London for what we paid.
If you're looking for the classic French staples done to a high standard (duck, entrecôte, crème brulée, cheese) and a few more adventurous options (the risotto with curry spices was excellent), I would...
