This was my first visit to the carlie. Overall it was good, the food is good, the drinks are also good, and the atmosphere is nice. The prices are fair and in terms of food and drinks, all of my guests found something they like to drink/eat. The service was slow at times, understandable as it was Saturday night and there were only 2 barmen and one barmaid working, but they were nice and did their best. The music was at the right volume, we could talk and enjoy the music.
I was a bit disappointed in the corner we got as a group of 20+ people as there weren't enough chairs and we had to request two times for more chairs so that everyone could have a chance to be seated. Fortunately my guests were not bothered and had fun regardless. The bouncer/doorman was rude to some of my guests and courteous to others, which upset me. He was too rude and could have easily been nicer, especially that we arrived early in the night and the place was still calm so I can't blame it on him being under stress. Maybe he had a bad day and after a couple of drinks he became upset, I don't know. But some of my guests were going to leave because he raised his voice at them because they had a small cake from a bakery nearby as a surprise for me as it is one of my favorite places and they wanted to keep it in their bag while he wanted them to throw it. Afterwards he said he will give it himself to the barman for keep when they said they'll do it, as if he was accusing them of lying. He was almost screaming, scolding adults like they were rascals while they were still standing outside, embarassing them in public. Regardless of the no food policy, knowing that he was ok with others bringing in their leftover food from that same bakery, I know that he could have acted better because he did. He also make snide comments about them when welcoming my other guests and kept on glaring at them all night as if they were criminals (over a piece of cake that can'tbe shared!!), making them uncomfortable.
Besides the doorman's bad behavior, it was overall ok. But it did ruin the mood from the start as it was a birthday celebration with a cake bought from the baker of the carlie, so we already had bought from them came for everyone, his reaction was unnecessary and plain rude for a piece of cake for 1 person. It may have been a one-time occurrence as I read mostly good reviews of the place, hence my choice to invite people, but I don't feel comfortable inviting my friends there anymore unfortunately. Maybe after some time I might give it...
Read moreLoud music (even though there’s no space to dance): the music was so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation with someone next to you. Also, very slow service at the bar (only 2 barmen to serve 100+ people where it’s supposed to be a cocktail bar). Tapas take too long to get to your table after ordering them at the bar (if you’re up to waiting 20 minutes to get one barman’s attention). Cheap cocktails, so don’t expect to have something good. Even I’ve booked a tables to 12 people, we’ve got a high U-shaped one where it was impossible to stay in a confortable position:half of the group could...
