I found this place on the Happy Cow App. I came here in March on a Friday night around 8pm and it was crowded! However I was given a table within 5 minutes of waiting so it wasn't bad. They were really packed with people so it took a good few minutes to bring the menu but it was not a problem for me. The menu is in French and English and has many starters and entrees.
I got the French Onion Soup and the Roast SeitĂĄn. I chose potatoes as my side and also got an extra side of rice because I hadn't eaten all day and was feeling hungry.
To drink they brought a carafe of water and I also ordered a mango smoothie. The mango smoothie was sweet and tasty. It was cool and refreshing. I love mangos and this tasted really good.
The French Onion Soup was fantastic. I had read mixed reviews on here and I don't really know where they are getting better vegan onion soup. The top was cheesey and had the perfect texture. The bread in the soup was flavorful and easy to eat. I thought there was the right amount of onion and didn't feel like it was lacking anything. I really liked the broth as well. Lots of good flavors. I highly recommend this. It's a great starter and honestly could have been a meal in itself and I regretted immediately ordering any extra food because I was beginning to feel full after finishing the soup.
The Roast SeitĂĄn was incredible. I was so full but I couldn't leave anything on my plate. I thought the French Onion Soup was good, but the roast seitĂĄn was mind blowing. I saw reviews saying it had a sponge texture but I don't think that is accurate. I think it has a dough texture like making bread. It was not unpleasant and I really enjoyed it. I thought the soft gooeyness of it worked really well with the filling. The flavors were strong and wonderful. The pepper left a nice aftertaste and lingered the longest. The potato side was also very good. It was very under-flavored compared to the roast it shared a plate with. But it was such a nice texture with the baked skin on one side and the soft middle. It was an excellent side and it filled me up completely. I used the brown rice to soak up all of the sauce on the plate because the pepper sauce was very pleasant.
I highly recommend trying this place. It's a great way to experience traditional French food made vegan.
I think France makes my favorite vegan food so far out of the countries I have visited. I haven't been disappointed with a vegan restaurant in Paris yet.
Pros: Delicious flavors, Good portions, friendly to English Speakers
Cons: Can be a long...
Read moreSorry to say I was disappointed after I was so looking forward to going to this restaurant. Researched it from Canada and then saved it for our last night in Paris. Once there we were not greeted very friendly as they were overbooked with every table full (which is wonderful to see !) however two women cannot possibly attend to their guests when they are completely full. Was moved as they neeed more space. Sat for 20 minites with not even water or drink order until finally called someone over to help. From that point on they were distracted and busy and we really felt ignored. Food wise , I felt everything really over seasoned. Example is the French onion soup : the predominate taste was herbs. It tasted very strong herb wise and could not get the onion at all. A better cheese should be used that melts as this brand just stays in a form block that tasted like a plastic disc floating on the top. The stew looked really well done however was again underwhelming as the flavour I took away was âthickenerâ. Perhaps a cornstarch? Or a flour ? But it was really really thick and it was the taste that I came away with. Non vegans would love it though as it is very authentic to meat which is another reason I could not enjoy it. Then there was a seaweed tofu potatoe concoction that frankly was strange and confusing. The overwhelming flavour was fish. The tofu was not cooked but tasted uncooked and all mushed together. Potatoe and fish flavour just did not work at all. The raw salad that accompanied it was just that â- raw lettuce carrots and beets. No dressing. I donât understand why anyone would serve lettuce without a dressing on it ? Overall it was a very odd dish that I would never emulate. Happy to see restaurants like this existing and so happy to see it busy but definately needs some cohesiveness and direction with their dishes. I left...
Read moreI really don't want to leave a negative review. However my girlfriend and I had read how great this place was, so we rang a day ahead to book a table.
After waiting all day (in which we read a lot of positive reviews of le Potager), we got to oue reservation time. We took, starters, main courses and a dessert. The French onion soup was the highlight of the trip, the cheese inside it was very good. The baked potato with olivada was not very impressive at all. It felt like a poorly cooked baked potato simply with some olivada on it. It is described as this in the menu, however we expected something more from the flavour.
Main courses we took the lasagna. Very bland. Spinach seemed to be from a frozen packet before being made into the lasagne. The lasagne wasn't heated all the way through. We couldn't finish it. Very disappointing. The seitan bourgogne was a little better. The gravy had some interesting flavours, however the seitan in it was very bland. It was fine, but was no where near worth its price.
Then we were Really looking forward to the creme brulee. We ordered one to Share. It simply was some flavoured tofu. Was very lemony, and the texture was very firm. Not worth ordering.
After waiting so long for the experience, we both left disappointed. The place was expensive. Flavours were uneventful. General quality was below average. If we made some of these dishes to serve at home we would not be so happy with the outcome.... The staff were...
