I rarely leave negative reviews but I was extremely shocked by the behavior of the woman behind the counter.

I had heard good things about this place from a friend, and being in the area, I decided to drop in. Initially I wanted to purchase a box of chocolates as a gift, however I have never tasted their chocolates and they have some unique flavors, so I proceeded to inquire about how to choose the chocolates.

I hadn't yet finished my question, the lady assumed I was asking something else and interrupted me with an answer I couldn't understand because it had nothing to do with my question. I told her I didn't understand her and she merely repeated the same phrase several times until finally, I understood that she was saying the expiration date "two weeks" (which I didn't ask about). When I finally got it she LITERALLY rolled her eyes at me.

She did give me one sample when I clarified my question; I wasn't sure if you could get samples in these kinds of artisanal chocolate shops so it was nice to receive one. However it couldn't make up for her attitude.

I wanted to taste more to be able to choose a box, so I chose 4 additional ones to taste. Each time she silently took out a chocolate at my request but with a sour face that made me feel very unwelcome. She didn't engage me in any conversation and her demeanor was very off-putting like she didn't want me there. In the end, the flavor was not quite good enough for me to pick a box, I paid for my 4 chocolates and left with relief, still feeling bad in being treated this way. I don't know why she treated me this way, she seemed nice to other French customers, and my experience also seems contrary to other reviews.

This experience was a sharp contrast to the chocolate shop L'atelier de Chocolat I visited just prior which treated me with a friendly attitude as soon as I talked in and offered me samples by asking what I usually liked, and answered all my questions patiently and happily.

It was also a far cry from the warm service I received at Patrick Roger yesterday where I ended up buying a box of chocolates.

I think you have decent chocolates for the price, but I would really advise you to train your staff to be more courteous and be able to introduce the chocolates a little, maybe be able to recommend chocolates based on customer taste. And please tell your staff never ever to roll their eyes at any customer, that is absolutely...

My wife’s pitch was “Japanese-inspired chocolate” and I was hooked before we set foot in the store.

First things first, the space is very small, so if there’s a line, you will feel cramped. That’s really it for the downsides, though, as the design itself is simple and elegant.

Next, the service. They were very kind without being pushy. Another bonus is the lady who helped us spoke at least Japanese, French, and English, so American and UK visitors should feel welcome.

Finally, the chocolates. Please note that we did not try the pastries, so can’t comment on those.

For me, the traditional Japanese flavors worked better or worse depending on the specific one. In a non-scientific, incomplete descending scale, from better to not-so, I’d have to go something like chai, miso, wasabi. That isn’t to say that wasabi did not work, just that for me, chai complemented the chocolate better.

That said, though, you may feel differently and want to gobble wasabi chocolates all day long.

Before, I got a sampler. I’ll definitely be returning for more chai, miso, sesame, and yes,...
