We visited Wepler to celebrate our engagement, expecting an exceptional evening of classic Parisian brasserie dining. Instead, the experience was marred by unprofessional service, inconsistent food quality, and a lack of attention to detail.
The issues began with service. Some guests were offered coat service, while we were only asked as an afterthought. Our waiter mishandled the wine service, opening our bottle of Sancerre without allowing us to inspect the cork or taste it—a basic standard that was completely overlooked.
The food was equally disappointing. My côte de boeuf, ordered medium rare, arrived nearly raw. When we raised this with the waiter, he initially insisted that the kitchen would reheat the same piece of meat to correct it—an unacceptable solution for a dish of this caliber. After much debate, the manager intervened and replaced it with a new piece of meat. While this was appreciated, the replacement was slightly overcooked, and my mashed potatoes were never replaced. Instead, I received yet another helping of soggy, oily fries, which I didn’t touch.
My fiancée’s seafood platter was also problematic, missing several key items that had been lazily substituted with extra oysters. When we addressed this with the waiter, he offered no resolution, and the manager seemed unaware of the issue entirely. No effort was made to rectify it.
As an attempt to make amends, the manager offered us a free dessert, which we appreciated. We chose a Dame Blanche to share, but it was merely average and did little to salvage the evening.
My fiancée, a Parisian who has been visiting Wepler for over 40 years, shared her profound disappointment with the manager, explaining that this was the worst experience she had ever had at the brasserie. For a bill approaching 200 euros, the service and food quality fell far below the standards of a traditional Parisian brasserie, especially one of Wepler’s reputation.
Sadly, we left disappointed and will not...
Read moreMy experience at Le Wepler in Paris was unfortunately quite disappointing. Despite its great location at Place de Clichy, right by the metro, the reality didn't live up to the expectations.
The seating in the restaurant was uncomfortable, which really took away from the overall dining experience. To make matters worse, the service was extremely slow. It felt like the wait staff didn't really care about our needs, which was quite disheartening. One incident that stood out was when we tried to split the bill. At first, we were told that it wasn't possible, only to be told later by another waiter that it could be done. By that point, it was too late and this inconsistency only added to our frustration.
The staff came across as incompetent and distant, lacking the warmth and efficiency that one would expect from a Parisian café known for its seafood platter and traditional French dishes like sauerkraut and onion soup. The food presentation was decent, but it couldn't compensate for the lackluster service and the overall atmosphere of the place.
Le Wepler, with its art deco style and historical significance as a renowned spot in Paris, had the potential to offer a memorable dining experience. However, the issues with the service significantly marred our visit. It might appeal to those seeking a convenient stop near the metro in the 18th arrondissement, but based on my personal experience, I would be hesitant to...
Read moreIf the service is terrible, then the rest doesn't really matter, does it?! And to be clear, our waitress was lovely and did all she could. But at some point she was in tears... Not because of us but because of the lack of food coming out of the kitchen. 2h in and we still didn't have all our starters. I'm hindsight, we were told that one of the starters was served as part of another guys main sea food platter. Mains came out sporadically. When most mains were done, we inequities about a missing steak... (We were assured 3 times it's on its way) only to find out they are out of entrecote.
Well, maybe the food was at least tasty? It was mediocre. Steaks cooked inconsistently. 2 lamb chops were borderline with a third one raw. Rum bubba was stale and the rum horrible. Creme brulee was ok.
And it wasn't cheap either. Our heart goes to the poor waitress.
Avoid.
Edit (2-July): I contact the restaurant as requested, in the day they sent the message. Just like my starter - no...
