I will start with the good, the food. The scallops I had were good, the chicken my son had was good, the Cesar salad my other son had was only ok, but the filet mignon my husband had was amazing. So good that I would have gone back the next day had it been on the menu, and told the owner as much. That said, this restaurant will pull all the regular โAmerican touristโ cons and assume you donโt live in Europe, as we do. If you ask for still water, they will bring you a bottle of commercial water and charge you for it, not a carafe of free flat water as is the law. They will also mention over and over that the tip is not included when they bring you the bill. The bill was not itemized at all. It only vaguely mentioned 4 meals and the total, that is all. I know this is also not customary and probably had some ridiculous charges added, without itemization I guess we will never know. Our bill was close to โฌ250 euros. We would have been a repeat customers for life as we live in Europe and visit Paris frequently but honestly, as good as the filet was, weโd rather find one that doesnโt come with all the...
ย ย ย Read moreLes Bacchantes is a traditional French Brasserie that we found on Rue de Caumartin a few minutes northeast of Madeline Church. Opening hours are 12-3pm (lunch) and 6.30-12am (dinner) Monday to Saturday. Closed on Sundays.
We had lunch here back in December, finding staff friendlier than most when it comes to dealing with non-French speaking guests. English menus are available, expect a typical French affair with food and drinks as well as daily specials.
During our meal we had the beef tartare served with fries. The tartare was well dressed and tasted delicious, a very good serving that we'd happily reorder. We also enjoyed the wild boar pate that was pretty good. Our other main was a venison stew with offal flavoured brown gravy. This was an interesting order that tasted better than expected.
A nice bottle of red was enjoyed during our meal. We finished off lunch with a very good molten chocolate style cake, wrapping up a pretty good meal at Les Bacchantes, a place we would happily...
ย ย ย Read moreWe had a late dinner after a show at the Palais Garnier. It was very busy and the night started fine. We ordered Normandy oysters, onion soup, lamb chops ordered medium rare, and duck. However, they brought out our main courses before the oysters. When we told them, they took back our dinners and brought the oysters. When they brought the dinners back, the lamb was well done. When my wife pointed out the lamb was overcooked, our waitress became very agitated and insisted it was medium rare. She made us feel like entitled and demanding Americans. Fortunately another server noticed and took over. He was very apologetic and corrected the situation. If not for the service, I would have rated the...
