To celebrate our eighth wedding anniversary (time has wings!), my wife and I decided that Les Rupins would be the destination to celebrate. Since we like to live on the wild side, we showed up to the restaurant without a reservation (we feel like reservations can make dining on vacation too stressful). Fortunately, we were seating after three minutes of waiting. After browsing the menu, we ordered the following: Salmon Avocato Tartare (wife), Angus Rumsteak (wife), the special of the day - beef with potatoes (me), two glasses of Bordeaux, and one glass of Sauvignon.
Roughly 15 minutes later our orders arrived, smelling just as delicious as their titles. Initially I found the beef to lack in flavor; however, the included sauce immediately wiped that thought from my mind. The side of potatoes were plentiful (so much so that I couldn’t fathom eating dessert afterwards) and the glass of Sauvignon was the perfect selection to wash down my meal.
Although we were both satisfied with our meals, I cannot say that we were so impressed that we would make a return visit. If you’re looking for a good spot for dinner & wine, check...

After a couple of days, wandering the arr’s of Paris, we struggled to find any food worth shouting about. On our final evening, we decided to try bistro opposite our hotel. Wow. This place really hit the mark. The perfect sized menu meant we wasn’t overloaded with choice and was a good indication that this place did what they did, and do it well.
We started with a perfectly seasoned mushroom velouté, well balanced and served with just the right amount of bread, followed by the most amazing fresh egg pasta lasagna. As a person who normally enjoys meat with my main dish, I was not left disappointed with a completely vegetarian meal. Ricotta combined with sun dried tomatoes. Just amazing!
A starter, a main, a couple glasses of red and a coffee each came to around €90 total and easily the best food we enjoyed in Paris. Well done to the whole team at Les Rupins. You made our visit that extra bit special and I will forever recommend your place to friends and family...
Read moreLes Rupins for lunch. The pea soup with mint and crispy bacon is absolutely essential in this Parisian dry heat. Temperature spiked up to a scorching 34°C. Duck foie gras with caramelised onions and fig jam is a standout dish, if you don't mind sweet jams too. Love it! Burratina di Puglia is good too. But just common dish you can get in Singapore. For mains, we had the salmon fillet. Augus rumsteak and duck breast. Honestly, these aren't as great as the appetisers. Especially, the beef. Big disappointment. After returning a medium well piece of beef, the 2nd was more like "medium", rather than medium rare I ordered. The duck and fish were ok, but nothing exceptional. We only had 1 dessert - chocolate fondant, and thankfully it was great. Won't go back for the mains, which seems average at best, but the appetisers are worth a short trip, given the value our meals cost (€133 for 3 pax, including 4 beers). Service from server is brisk and good...
