Absolutely atrocious experience.
As a visitor to Paris for only a couple of days, I unfortunately do not understand French. I ordered my beverage in English and the lady at the cashier replied in French: “Chaud or Frois?” Since I did not understand French, I asked if she was asking me about the sugar level and that was when she stared blankly at me and snapped while raising her voice and shouted with great annoyance, “HOT OR COLD MADAM?” Gosh, never have I been treated this way in any setting when I simply tried to clarify what her question was about.
The most ridiculous thing is that she is not French. She is a prc Chinese lady who was speaking Mandarin to the other staff making the bubble tea at the back. If she thought that there was a language barrier, she could simply point to the menu which clearly showed a hot or cold sign. She did not need to shout and clearly she could understand and speak English but chose not to.
For context, I am Asian who can speak both Mandarin and English.

But today I had a bad experience with the staff at the bubble tea counter. I’ve never seen this person before, and it wasn’t the same staff member I met before. This person looked upset or angry for some reason, even though I was polite and didn’t do anything wrong.
I ordered in English because I don’t speak French well yet, and I don’t speak Chinese. While I was waiting for my drink, I didn’t hear what the staff said. When I looked up, they spoke to me again in a loud and rude voice, asking if I wanted a bag. It made me feel uncomfortable and surprised.

I was so depresses that some people came late cutting in the queue.
