Me when I walk by a French restaurant: 😑 Me when I walk by an Asian restaurant: 🥹 In Paris 🇫🇷, it's almost easier to eat Asian than French: Indian 🇮🇳, Thai 🇹🇭, Japanese 🇯🇵, Chinese 🇨🇳, Vietnamese 🇻🇳... Name it, there's one nearby. In particular, near Palais Royal, there are lots of them. 🥳 During one of my last visits, the first time I went to that neighborhood, I was so sad because we had a booking at a local restaurant with my aunt and I so wanted to stop in one of these Asian places... 😓 There was one in particular that caught my eye 👀: Omusubi Gonbei, which, as stated in its name, sells omusubi 🍙 (better known as onigiri and AKA nigirimeshi). There's one thing I like a lot about omusubi: it's a cheap food that... my son loves! 😅 It's way cheaper than sushi 🍣, which is his favorite food, and it's not spicy 🌶️, as opposed to many other Asian items. As I said we couldn't stop there but I kept the idea 💡 and, a few days later, as my son was in a bad mood and I wanted him to relax, I looked it up on maps and I found another branch just around the corner. Yay! 🥳 The menu is simple: they offer 2 bentos 🍱 and omusubi per piece. We tried 1 of the bento (the non vegan one) and the bomb omusubi, which is a special one with a mix of salmon and tuna if I recall properly. Everything was good, including the karaage 🐔 in the bentos. But here's the thing I like the least about omusubi: it's comfort food, but it's never "wow", or at least I never had an amazing omusubi. So these ones were as good as the ones I had in Japan, and not much more expensive 💸, which, in Europe 🇪🇺, is quite exceptional: we had lunch for €8 each (no drinks, no desserts). The venue was cool, nothing fancy but I didn't expect fancy either, and the service was ok. Not much to expect on that side as you order at the counter. . . . Quality & taste: 8/10 Quantities: 8/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 Originality: 7/10 Ratio price / quality: 9/10 Service: 8/10 How I felt...
Read moreWhat happened to this place? before I rated it a 5 it was perfect, ate here minimum 2 time a week… and NOW: 1)Each onigiri we got sooo salty almost impossible to eat. Ghastly. One thing I must say good job on the coquette the flavour is great the oil wasn’t the freshest doe lingering after taste of burnt grease.
2)At times 2 onigiris and a full side is going to be cheaper than the formule depending on the one you get. So if you’re not trying to spend a lot check the math!
I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The service was quick and efficient, even though there was a huge line. The food was really affordable and filling. I went to this place with a friend, and we tried 5 different onigiris 🍙. I had the spicy-chicken onigiri, the mayo-chicken onigiri and the shrimp tempura onigiri. Whereas my friend got the curry onigiri and the kombu onigiri. I would personally rate the ones I tried: 9/10, 8/10 and 6/10 in that order. I was full by my second onigiri, so I would say three might be too much. My only and last critique is that there isn’t that much filling inside the onigiri, it’s...
