A lovely looking restaurant in a nice area. We walked up and were welcomed by a friendly head water who talked my wife through their limited vegetarian options and gave us a nice table for two outside. So far, so good. The waiter took our drinks order, a cocktail and a beer, neither of us are wine buffs! Both were good but 9Euro for a beer still makes me wince!! (that seems to be the restaurant price for a beer everywhere in the area, not just here). My wife had the vegetarian platter and I had the thick cut stake (rare). The atmosphere was lovely with a nice mix of us obvious tourists and French customers. The service was fine, friendly enough and coped easily with our mangled attempts at French. The big let down was the food. The vegi platter was the weirdest thing my wife had ever seen, a bowl of tomato gazpacho soup and a bowl of hot mash potato (apparently the mash was fab), the soup not so much, surrounded by various pickled vegetables and served with a large wedge of watermelon. But hey, its an experience and the French aren't noted for big on vegetarianism. But I had a steak, I like a steak, eaten steak in many countries, this one was a shocker! Tough as an old boot. I should have known, a plate cleared from a nearby table had a large chunk of steak left, my wife even commented on it. So all in all a disappointment , lovely ambience and good service but the food on this...
Read moreSince July 2022, the date of my visit with 2 Americans, I have been putting off writing this. We were walking in the Marais and chose this place to have lunch. It looked nice and is on such a pretty street. The condescending attitude of our "waiter" should have been our 1st warning to refuse to stay, but we were hungry and glad to have a place to sit. When our order finally arrived - I ordered a salad which is probably not on the menu anymore - we could not believe our eyes. It was disgusting and looked like the dog's dinner, like a dog had a go at it, so I took a photo before touching it (I ended up not eating it). When the waiter saw I hadn't eaten it he did not ask if I wanted something else, or if anything was wrong, and I had been too polite to send it back and make a scandal. Just before leaving I went to the toilettes, and when I came out there, much to my shock, a waiter (not ours) was taking the same salad to another table (to French customers), but it looked good. I wanted to be sure it was the same one I had ordered so asked him if it was called (I forget the exact name) and he said Yes, it was. Again, I took a photo. Photo #1 is the untouched /uneaten salad the way it was brought to our table and photo #2 is what it should have been. Horrible....
Read moreSo I arrived a bit after the rest of my group, ready to join their table. Upon my arrival we were told that they did not expect a group so large, and asked us if we could divide and sit in another table. I sat with my partner in one of the many empty tables of the restaurant while she was finishing her meal, considering having dessert together, but then we were told without manners to ask for main dishes, even when she already ate hers. Once we said we were not going to ask for more food, we were told to sit outside (nobody was there, at the freezing cold of January) or leave. So not only they made us move our meal to another table, then we were rudely asked to leave, and killed the mood for a large group of people who were enjoying their dinner. They cared more for a potential customer than for the ones who were already there. Awful service, avoid...
