October 2025 – Follow-up We waited an hour and fifteen minutes for an order that never came. I’ve never experienced staff deliberately acting like jerks.
We used to love this place. My son even asked specifically to come here on this trip because he remembered it fondly. We thought, why not? It’s a good place with good food. To make it clear to tourists, they served every table that arrived after us — as long as they spoke French. Although my husband and son speak French, I don’t, so we spoke in English. I have no other explanation for their attitude. We left — and won’t be coming back.
I am not removing my initial review; this is just a follow-up about a place I previously recommended.
May 2025 – Original Review We were looking for a good place to have dinner — nothing fancy, just proper food — and somehow ended up at Royal Vendôme. I’m honestly tired of overly polished restaurants where the food is secondary to Instagram shots. This place was the opposite: not about show, just really good cooking. The food was excellent. We tried meat, duck, and fish — everything was spot on. My son liked it so much he asked to come back the next day, which says it all. The burger wasn’t our favourite, but that’s probably just us — can’t expect a French place to get it exactly how we’d like it. Service wasn’t perfect, a bit slow at times, but nothing that would stop me from recommending it. If you’re in Paris and want a solid, tasty meal without all the pretense...
Read moreWe came at a busy time (about 85% full) and the place was obviously under staffed (3 servers and one of them was also the bartender). It was me and my husband and we got seated pretty soon, and there were a party of 4 and a party of 3 after us, also got seated at the same time. We don’t speak any French… I don’t know if that makes a difference BUT, we were being left out for quite a while….the 2 groups came after us got their orders, their drinks and their food, and we haven’t event place our orders. The server came by to apologize but the overall experience just felt really awful. Another couple came in 10 min after us event got their food sooner than us… We ordered the onion soup, foie gras, beef bourginon, chicken and 2 cocktails.
The onion soup was not “soupy” at all, it was full of soggy croutons with no liquid. I get that every restaurant has different recipe, but it’s not for me.
The foie gras was decent portion and it tasted great with the bread that came with it. I would suggest to have 3 slides of the bread instead of 2 because it’s not enough to pair with the foie gras.
The chicken was overcooked and the flavors wasn’t for us neither.
The potatoes in the beef bourginon was yummy and the rest was okay.
The 2 cocktails were great.
Overall experience was not great because of the under staff situation. The food was not as good as anticipated (especially the...
Read moreHighly recommended. With the overwhelming choice of restaurants in Paris we felt very lucky to have stumbled upon this gem right next door to Place Vendome. It showed as fully booked online so be sure to call in or phone. Everything was perfect, we could not fault a thing. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed, low lights, lovely bar, beautiful table settings and a traditional Parisian feel. Vianney in particular was so friendly and extremely professional. He was helpful and attentive without being intrusive. He was knowledgeable with the menu and was patient enough to speak in excellent English for us all evening. We bravely shared the snails and frogs legs which, if you just want to sample a taste, come in the most delicious garlic sauce to dip with fresh bread. The main courses of beef bourguignon and the mushroom pasta were all equally flavourful and filling. Squeeze in a creamy desert and the mint digestif - you won’t regret it. Excellent value, too, with a bottle of wine. Thank you to the chefs and to Vianney for a...
