It was one third full when I entered. A large group of students nattered noisily at a high table in the centre of the restaurant and one or two couples were dotted around elsewhere.
The chicken shawarma platter arrived quickly. The meat was juicy and well seasoned, sandwiched between two thick flatbreads, though the bottom one soon became soggy. Chips on the side dusted with paprika were the decent hard working sort, not winning any awards but crunchy and comforting all the same. Well accompanied by squiggly mayonnaise - the decent hard working sort.
The salad was feeble though (and not enough!) Chopped lettuce, and pickles which didn't have the zing nor the crunch to do the heavy lifting that all great pickles should. They seemed furtive, embarrassed almost to be on the plate.
The star of the show were the steaming triangular pillows of fingertip-scalding-hot bread that arrived halfway through, relieving the soggy lower flatbread of its duty.

Read moreI've been in Paris 5 days and have eaten twice at Sardé. I appreciate food that is uncomplicated and not fancy but is prepared with care and attention. Lebanese food is vegetable forward and one of my favorite cuisines and this unpretentious restaurant is kinda perfect for a traveler.
The servers are friendly and helpful, the food fresh and very tasty, the limited wine selection is very pleasurable and perfectly complements the food, the decor has a lot of charm, and the prices are reasonable. I enjoyed the music and having an opportunity to listen to contemporary Lebanese, Egyptian, and Berber artists. They may have been other soundtracks but I didn't care not look up anything until after finishing my meal.
There is some inconsistency in the food prep but I didn't care because both versions of the tabbouleh salad were delicious. I prefer the lemony version over the spicy hot pepper version but both were good.
