My wife and I decided to have a long weekend in Paris to see the Mark Rothko exhibition and to experience the "Parisian lifestyle". This includes researching for an above average French restaurant and the Terra Bar a Vins seem to fit the bill from its reviews.
We booked well ahead of time, and we were very much looking forward to our visit. The restaurant is cosy and open-plan, and the staff (who spoke good English) and the chefs were very attentive and provided good service. A large selection of wines was offered for a variety of budgets and a menu with 4-5 dishes per vegetable, fish and meat categories were offered. We ordered 4 dishes; 1 veg, 1 seafood & 2 meat with wine and cheese for dessert. With 3 glasses of wine and 1 glass of Sekt, the bill came to 110 Euro.
Other than the meat dishes which were cooked, the ingredients for the dishes were pre-prepared, and put together in front of you by the chefs.
Each dish is the size of a tapas portion, and costs 12 Euro for the veg, 16 to 18 Euro for the others. Bread is offered to accompany the dishes.
Both my wife and I are foodies i.e. we do eat in a lot of different restaurants, so we were looking forward to tasting these dishes. For us, some dishes were good, and some different. The sea food dish was served cold - it was with scallops, lime and some type of flower pedals. I think this cause some problems for my wife in the night. She woke up and really did not feel well, and I won't provide the gory details. This continued the next day on our flight back home which was not nice for her nor the passengers near us.
I contacted the restaurant on this matter and they kindly investigated the problem but no other cases were reported.
Would I recommend this restaurant, it depends on whether you have the budget and if you want to have a new food experience. For us, such restaurants is an experience but it would not be on our list of restaurants we would like to...
Read moreI thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Terra Bar. The space is cozy yet lively, with upbeat music that breathed life into my jet-lagged soul. The young, energetic servers were a welcome burst of energy themselves—friendly, attentive, and truly brought me back to life. Before I knew it, a delicious glass of wine appeared before me, followed closely by my first dish: the Oeuf Parfait.
This delightful plate featured buckwheat gnocchi nestled in garlic cream, studded with hazelnuts, fried sage, and Parmesan, all crowned with a gently coddled egg. Each bite was a flavor bomb. While the gnocchi on its own could have used a touch more seasoning, everything together created a beautifully balanced and satisfying dish.
Next came the giant asparagus—drizzled with candied smoked egg yolk, cumin caramel, basil water, and sprinkled with salicorn (pickleweed). These unexpected combinations sang together in harmony. I eagerly mopped up every last drop with the accompanying crunchy bread.
I ended with a standout duck breast, perfectly cooked to tender, juicy perfection. It was paired with roasted parsnips and a rich, fragrant reduction laced with za’atar and tarragon. The sweetness of the parsnips played wonderfully against the richness of the duck. Though I was tempted, there was no room left for dessert.
Throughout the evening, the staff remained warm and helpful, offering thoughtful wine pairings to match their stunning dishes. I left with a spring in my step and a full heart, along with my belly!
Highly recommended—I’ll absolutely return to Terra Bar on my next...
Read moreI would have to say this is my favorite restaurant in paris, from the food quality, price, service to atmosphere everything are amazing!
Me and partner ordered the scallops, sea bass, and duck breast.
The scallops dish is super memorable and good. The scallop itself is so fresh, cooked till perfect, crispy outside and keeping inside slightly raw which create this very creamy texture. Combining the foamy cream surrounded it which has a cheesy taste just elevated the taste of the scallops
Again for the sea bass with pumpkin puree, the fish cooked till perfect, super crispy fish skin with a strong taste of fish oil, combing the pumpkin puree and the bitterness of the quince, it creates multi flavors in your mouth. From the fish, a slight citrus taste from the clementine sauce to the bitterness of the quince, then the sweetness from the pumpkin puree
For the duck breast, it is super tender itself, the fat and meat balance is perfect, the chestnut sauce underneath the duck is a quite savory but mixing the sweetness from the kobocha puree, everything is balanced out. In terms of texture, beside the tenderness from the duck, salsify create a crunchy texture to the dish but what surprised me the most is that thin layer of some sort of fruit(?) it has a slight floral flavor which elevates the whole dish creating this multi flavor in your mouth again!
we will definitely return to paris just for this restaurant and try their...
