Went to here for lunch (17 euro) with my friend, from the outside, there are a lot of well dressed people as well as in the inside. The design inside the place is very well thought and surely it's meant to impress.
Now onto the food, in contrast with how beautiful and formal the restaurant is... The food was absolutely tasteless.
First, the entree of tartar, it didn't have any seasoning. Did they run out of salt and pepper?
I don't even understand, the green powder on top and the purple liquid they use on the tartar didn't contribute to anything. It tasted like eating raw chopped fish and the fish didn't smell like sea.
Main dish was pêche with radish and mushrooms, and it was exactly that, radish and mushroom taste, no herbs, no innovation, nothing.
Even though they remember to put salt for the main meal, the fish was VERY DRY. White foam and oil in the dish are for decoration purposes as they taste like NOTHING.
You can seriously make these 2 dishes at your own home.
Both entree and plat was served with a piece of cheap bread (very airy and dry) for each person. I even had the end of the bread (seriously, even supermarket bread is better than this). Considering that there is a jar full of this bread, this is the same bread served for dinner menu. How could an expensive restaurant serve this kind of bread? It doesn't make sense to me.
The only thing that was good about this restaurant was the decor, the service (very attentive and friendly), the waiter and waitress are very proper and well dressed.
This is the second seafood restaurant in Rennes that turns out very disappointing. With this i conclude to not go to seafood restaurant anymore in Rennes.
You can definitely go here if you eat ONLY ambiance instead of foods, me personally i still need food to stay...
Read moreBooked this after some rave reviews and really wanted an accomplished seafood experience. Unfortunately, the delivery was underwhelming. We arrived as the first guests and were shown to an upstairs table, refused a table downstairs in the more ‘atmospheric’ bar area as they were ‘all reserved’. The hostess was quite surly for some reason. Our waitress was however delightful and made us feel welcome throughout. Food wise, the execution was a little odd: oysters gratinee, were room temperature, so a little disconcerting; tuna tataki was the odd one out, on a plain white plate with finger marks, which was surprising. Main course John Dory was just a shame as this delicate fish was served with bisque, courgettes and peas, so no texture to contrast- it felt like we were in a nursing home! We did not stay for dessert as this would have been another addition to an already large bill. At €45 per person with just one drink, it feels like a real shame and not good value. The interior is tastefully decorated and we all felt on balance, that the food did not match. The ingredients were not given simple execution they deserved, flat flavours and odd temperatures, lacking in any pleasure. I hope the chefs are not too bored, as this is how we felt in conclusion. This place would not last very long in any other European cities. There are many small restaurants in this area, but Chez Brume sadly had not matched the local enthusiasm...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel. It offers exclusively seafood dishes very competitively priced. At first restaurant seems very tiny but it has a second floor where we ended up sitting. There is possibly more floors above but didn’t check. Menu items are labeled very simply by the main ingredient: ‘The oyster’, ´The cod’, ´the sea bass’, etc… (in french). however, simplicity stopped there: We ordered oysters for appetizer (9 for 12EUR) and the sea bass as well as the scallops as main dishes. Both dishes were very tasty, complex, well prepared, locally sourced. We drank a bottle of Saint George which was excellent and finished with ´the chocolate’ which was not the best option. If you are looking for a great seafood...
