Au Jardin d'Eden — Restaurant in Thonon-les-Bains

Loved it, a must visit in Evian.

Place It is a mid scale place located close to the city center of Evian, just opposite the lake. They have a cosy dinning room as well as a terrace.

Service They are very gentle and they do speak English. They accommodated us on the terrace as we had a baby stroller and inside the space is limited. The service was fast and effective. We liked that despite being still September they offered us blankets.

Food Entrée was bread with olive paste and a cold tomato soup with cucumbers, a sort of Gazpacho. Very tasty. For starters we had avocado tuna tartar. Beautifully decorated with marinated onion, slices of avocado and the tartar rolled in a sort of crepe. Kids menu was filet of fish with vegetables and fries. It was not very kiddy, but still very tasty. The mains were perch filet from lake leman. A very big portion with crispy fish, veg's and fries really nice. Beef filet with artichokes and mushrooms with an outstanding presentation and even a better taste. Dessert was assorted specialities miniatures de la Gourmand, lovely.

I wanted to reserve a table and called the restaurant. However, I don't speak French, and the person on the other end of the line repeatedly refused to speak English, even though they had sufficient English skills for making a reservation. They pretended not to hear me, treating me quite poorly.

The only thing they were willing to tell me in English was to send an email for the reservation.

We ended the call. I then asked ChatGPT how to reserve a table in French and called again. This time, they answered and immediately hung up, which felt very rude.

My anticipation for Evian is now dampened, and I feel quite sad about...

Great service. Great food! My daughters have egg allergies and are picky eaters. My wife is a vegetarian. They accommodated everyone. My daughters both ate more varieties of food there than any restaurants we have ever been. We will go there again. The only negative thing I have to say is their tasting menu.
