Gyozas were unexpectedly legit (authentic) and the sauce they paired is real good, it brought me back to Japan (I’m from there and my family runs a 42 yr old sushi restaurant). The brochette is okay, because the texture of the beef is satisfactory but the beef and cheese ratio is not right, it looks like they pounded on the cheese to use as less as beef as they can. The chicken yakitori is juicy and they did it right w perfectly cooked red onion. I have yet to find the authentic yakitori here in France. Their sushi rolls are good but aren’t big enough as other restaurants that I have been to here in Toulouse offers but too me they’re all rolled with mediocrity (not as authentic), and I have come to peace with this living in France for years, so for the size the price for me isn’t as reasonable but not a reason for me not to go back here if I’m in Saint Cyprien and craving for sushi. Because the ambiance is good, the decor is clean (understandably so because the restaurant is only new and 8 months old) and not raggedy like other Japanese restaurants I’ve been in Toulouse, the tables for 2 diners are too close to each other, but I guess it does the job to put more guests especially if the place demands more tables on weekends, but it’s for this my only critic for the atmosphere while the service is great..The servers are all smiles and warm. They speak English, which is a...
Read moreMy partner and I visited Mayumi last night after reading such good reviews on Google about it. We are tourists from South Africa and don’t speak a lot of French, but generally manage with google translate and broken French. Upon arrival when your host/waitress heard that we were English, we were treated with such hostility, I have never experienced it before. She was so rude, literally rolling her eyes at us when we asked her questions, and acted like we were vermin from the streets that had come in to her restaurant.
We had an English-speaking French couple next to us who then spoke on our behalf, and apologized for her behaviour, which they also were in disbelief at. Thank god that they were there otherwise we would have been completely clueless! The whole experience was ruined for us after the treatment by your waitress. We were honestly scared to ask her for anything or to even ask for the bill because it looked as if she wanted to shout at us.
I’m sure this is not the first time you have had tourists in your restaurant, and wanted to let you know that this is the kind of treatment that they are receiving. I completely understand that there may be a language barrier but that is no excuse to be outright rude and hostile towards customers.
Thank you for the food, but we will not be returning nor recommending your restaurant...
Read moreWe discovered this little gem while staying in St. Cyprien, Toulouse, for a conference. We ate there on our first evening and were very impressed, so decided that we'd have to eat here again. We wouldn't normally visit the same restaurant multiple times, especially when Toulouse has so many amazing eateries on offer. However, because it was both convenient for our work and because it was actually some of the best Japanese food we've had outside of London or Japan, we ate here three times, for lunches and dinner. Each time was fantastic!
We worked our way through bento boxes, poke bowls, sushi plates, rice dishes, gyoza, soups and salads—all of them were exceptionally flavoursome, perfect temperatures, a good size and presented beautifully. The sushi (rice) is exceptional, as is the quality of all the other ingredients.
The staff members were extremely pleasant and polite, it was mainly two female front of house staff who dealt with us, both speaking English, but also happy to indulge our not exceptional French.
The ambience is also perfectly decent. Minimalist and entirely commensurate with similar places we've visited in Japan. The two-person tables are perhaps quite small, but actually there was enough room for our dishes, and we didn't feel too packed-in with our diners nearby.
We'd definitely eat here again...
