Unfortunately, my experience at OFFICINA GUSTO in Toulouse left much to be desired. While the view of the cathedral and the kindness of the staff were redeeming factors, the food itself was not up to par. The carbonara, a classic Italian dish -mind you I am not Italian- was a major disappointment. The recipe was inauthentic, with bacon used in place of the traditional ingredients guanciale. There was simply no pepper, and despite a description bemoaning those who put cream into their dish, this tasted suspiciously like it was the case. The result was a dish that lacked the depth and richness that makes carbonara so beloved. It was clear that the chef did not have a deep understanding of Italian cuisine, and it was disappointing to see such a lack of authenticity in the preparation of the dish. The non-alcoholic cocktails were tasty and refreshing and the restaurant is situated in an ancient touristic and shopping area, right next to the cathedral, so waiting was pleasant enough ...once the moving van plus workers next door had finished their business !
The decoration inside is extremely pleasant for the eye ; the only reason why I did not put 5 stars is because I have mobility problems and the stairs going to the bathroom is steep for me; On top of that, there's an extra step before the stall that is not easy to detect, and I tripped.
The starters/ side dishes were good, we all loved the roasted artichokes, they were to die for ! The pasta was also on the generous side and savoury, although one of us found theirs a bit on the over-creamy side . I had a pistacchio version of Tiramisu for dessert, quite enjoyable , to my taste it could have been a tad more firm (but it was a hot day) . LâatmosphĂšre surfaite: RĂ©clame faite jusque dans la carte du restaurant: « ma che buono! » lirez vous en dessous de la description de certains mets, les plats sont servis dans des caquelons en cuivre Ă manche long brĂ»lants (mais contenant des pĂątes froides) qui nâont aucune fonction pratique, ni esthĂ©tique. Cette vaisselle dâapparat semble avoir pour seul but de donner une touche « authentique » Ă lâenseigne. Tous les plats ne sont pas cuisinĂ©s Ă lâhuile dâolive, et je soupçonne quâune partie de la nourriture ne soit pas cuisinĂ©e sur place - mis Ă part les pĂątes sans doute. Notez que les prix sont chers.
Jâavais laissĂ© un premier commentaire, auquel le propriĂ©taire du restaurant a rĂ©pondu de maniĂšre si agressive et indĂ©cente que je lâavais dâabord retirĂ©.
Jâai finalement dĂ©cidĂ© de ne pas cĂšder face au caractĂšre intimidant de sa rĂ©action et de réécrire mon expĂ©rience. Visiblement chaque commentaire nĂ©gatif est contrecarrĂ© par ce propriĂ©taire qui accuse ses clients: « Pourquoi ne pas avoir signalĂ© votre mĂ©contentement sur le moment? Comment expliquez-vous le nombre de bons commentaires? » sont autant de remarques visant Ă discrĂ©diter les avis des personnes déçues par Officina Gusto. Il suffit de faire dĂ©filer les avis pour sâen rendre compte.
Si tous les avis nĂ©gatifs reçoivent, au lieu dâun message dâexcuse poli, un retour dĂ©sagrĂ©able voir (dans mon cas) carrĂ©ment outrancier et intrusif (le propriĂ©taire est allĂ© jusquâĂ se moquer de ma vie personnelle et professionnelle, selon des informations quâil aura pu trouver, je le suppose, sur le web), il ne faut peut-ĂȘtre pas sâĂ©tonner du nombre impressionant de bons commentaires qui, selon moi, ne reflĂštent pas la vĂ©ritĂ© de la qualitĂ© de la nourriture.
Je demande donc au propriĂ©taire dâavoir la dĂ©cence et le professionalisme quâil convient, en me dispensant de ses remarques dĂ©placĂ©es et en acceptant le fait que tous ses clients ne sont pas satisfaits des services de restauration quâil propose.
La rubrique « avis » de google permet de laisser son opinion en toute libertĂ© et en toute transparence. On a le droit de ne pas ĂȘtre en accord avec une majoritĂ©.
Si les commentaires négatifs déplaisent au propriétaire, libre à lui de ne pas répertorier son établissement sur google ou le site de restauration Zenchef.
Une expérience décevante sur tous les plans, et humiliante...
