Recently I had an absolute pleasure of dining at Okomeya. The restaurant is located near Orbeliani Square, just a few minutes away from Baratashvili bus stop, you can easily find it from there, you just need to pass the flower market.
The decor was tastefully minimalistic, exuding an authentic yet welcoming vibe that immediately put me at ease.
What truly sets this place apart is its dedication to delivering the essence of Japanese comfort food. The menu might be simple, but it’s a love letter to home-cooked Japanese meals. I started with a bowl of Soy sauce based ramen with pork. The flavours were pure and heartwarming.
The service was impeccable, with a staff that exuded genuine warmth and knowledge about Japanese cuisine. They made me feel like a valued guest in their own home.
What’s most remarkable about this place is how it captures the essence of Japanese home cooking so authentically. While it might not have the flashiness of high-end Japanese dining, it excels in delivering those comforting, familiar flavours.
If you’re seeking an honest taste of Japan, far away from its shores, this restaurant is an absolute gem. It’s a place where simplicity meets excellence, and where every dish is a nostalgic trip down memory lane. A heartfelt five stars, and I can’t wait to return.
I've already introduced this place to many of my friends and family members, therefore I've had the chance to try other dishes as well. For example, Salt based ramen with chicken, the broth is lighter than the soy one. Also I love their Keema curry, which is a little bit spicy but it's a delicious kind of spicy. On top of that, their Mabo tofu, Chicken nanban with tartar sauce and Curry udon noodles with chicken is a great choice.
I sincerely hope that you will enjoy...

Okay. Hands-down best Japanese food. I think this is my favorite restaurant that I have eaten at in Tbilisi. Great price. Simple homemade foods, plus some of the best ramen I have had. The ramen here has a clean palate (as opposed to the fattier broths) and very balanced with a healthy amount of salt. The noodles may be homemade too - it’s not what the other pan-Asian restaurants are using. If you are in a hurry, you will be waiting a while for food just as an FYI. It is not quick.
The restaurant was impeccably clean and you can watch them cook at the counter. Not sure why this place isn’t busier. Best Asian restaurant here. Props to the Japanese chef/owner. He was also very kind.
We had eggplant with rice, beef and potato stew, karaage bento (fried chicken lunch set), and ramen 67 lari. It is probably a bit too much for two people. Probably would be full without the ramen. Very happy to find this place. They rotate menus but I uploaded...
Read moreIf this isn’t the cutest Japanese spot, I honestly don’t know what is. The atmosphere is charming, and the hospitality is next level—the owner personally comes out to wave and say goodbye in Japanese to every single customer. It’s such a warm and welcoming touch.
The food? Absolutely delicious. I tried the lemon chicken ramen, fried zucchini, Japanese fried chicken, and eggplant with rice—and every single dish was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection.
There can sometimes be a bit of a wait for your food, but they let you know that upfront before you're seated, which I really appreciated. The waitress (who also assists the chef) is incredibly polite and friendly, adding to the overall positive vibe.
If you’re not in a rush, I highly recommend giving this place a try. It’s a true hidden gem and well worth the visit. They...
