Living in this hostel was quite a low point in my journey. I must give credit to the great location and staffs who were present and tried their best to remediate the situation but three facts remain to be true and problematic during my stay. Cockroaches in the kitchen at all times Living in a hostel, I do not have the highest expectations for hygiene. Having cockroaches from time to time is just what happens. But whenever I look at this kitchen, there will be cockroaches. I did not feel comfortable eating in the kitchen. Bed bug bites starting from my 2nd night After I told them about the issue, the staff did not offer any compensation. It was not that they did not have another bed, but it was that it was a single room and they said I had to pay extra to sleep in there. I don’t think it was fair when the hostel’s bed bugs were the reason why I needed to change my bed. (I came directly from my own home, not another hostel or another country, so I am quite sure I did not bring the bed bugs) On the third night, they finally put me in another room, but it was mixed gender, and again they offered no compensation, despite this was not I booked. Their attitude was ‘You can either live in this room with bed bug or you can move to this room. Your choice.’ Some guest pulled out a knife during an argument in the common area This was honestly an unfortunate event and I cannot blame the hostel but they continued to let the person who pulled out the knife to sleep in the mixed gender room. But after witnessing that person threatening others with an actual knife, I would be lying if I say I was not concerned at all. Again, the hostel staff were sympathetic, but in terms of practical help, I was pretty...
Read moreThis hostel was a little oasis within Tbilisi. Pushkin 10 is no party hostel but was still quite social which is perfect as it's dead in the centre and close to bars and clubs so you can party at instead. You do have to climb up quite a number of stairs to reach it and there is no lift.
Check in is super easy and they email you ahead of time with all the instructions including an entry code for the front door lock. This made the hostel seem a lot more secure and I felt safe. The reception is pretty much available all the time.
There were two shower/toilet combination bathrooms and one toilet that we're all kept clean and despite having a number of beds and people staying at the hostel you weren't waiting long to use them. They were kept reasonably clean.
The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and relatively clean. The free tea and coffee was fabulous (try the fruit tea if they still have it!).
The bedrooms were clean and well organized. The beds gave the most amount of privacy I've ever experienced at a hostel. Once you closed the curtains it felt like you had your own little space and it made a huge difference at the end of a busy day. I will say, the mattresses were quite firm and I personally didn't find them comfortable but I'm just fragile and like a softer bed.
If you book a bed with Pushkin you won't be disappointed. Definitely consider this hostel if...
Read moreThat title was pretty literal for the first few days, because Tbilisi was around 40 Celsius when I arrived. However a few days in after the AC got working in my room, this place instantly went from 3 to 5 stars.||||There is a welcoming feel over here, so much so that you might even not regret skipping a day of hiking or touring just to be here and maybe visit a few nearby places. The facilities are about what you'd expect when paying for a hostel bed, but the rooms are kept quite clean, and there are useful things like a washing machine.||||I miss the late-night conversations that totally random hostel mates from around the world had about the most esoteric things. The location is central but it's not just about that, the atmosphere is such that I can count at least 5 people I met there who've been staying at the hostel for a couple of months.||||The guy running the show, Alex, is like a walking Wikipedia for anything Tbilisi. I randomly called him in the middle of shopping at a flea market for a super obscure item, and he almost immediately named a couple of places I could go to get it. I didn't get the opportunity to meet him much, but when I did bump into him, he always seemed like a very pleasant man. And he's super approachable and available.||||Really hope to visit Georgia again since there is much left to be seen, and when I do I hope to stay here again (maybe in...
