I normally stay at Sheraton Grand in Tbilisi but I added one night at Marriott towards the end of my recent trip to compare and steer my future stays. I think both hotels are nice and have generous elite loyalty benefits, and they have different strengths and weaknesses so they can cater to different guests. Marriott is best for location, service, and bright(er) rooms, whereas Sheraton Grand wins for the newer rooms / better condition, and great lounge and breakfast.
Marriott is located on Rustaveli street right in city center, less than 10-minute walk from Freedom Square so great location and much better than Sheraton Grand which is a 30-minute walk from city center and also not so close from the nearest metro station.
I booked the entry level room at Marriott and was upgraded as Ambassador Elite to the Grand Suite listed at 60-65 sqm. The suite had nice hardwood floor in the living room, and for me the main advantage was that it was brighter than the suites at Sheraton Grand which I find too dark. The suite at Marriott also had a convenient half bathroom close to the entrance in addition to full bathroom off the bedroom which had a shower separate from the bathtub. There was a huge outdoor terrace with many chairs.
A couple of things which I liked a bit less about Marriott, unfortunately the hardwood floor did not extend to the bedroom – it was entirely carpet. In addition there were some minor signs of mold in the shower and generally speaking not as fresh hardware as the recently renovated Sheraton Grand.
Happy hour 5:30-7:30pm was decent but not as great as Sheraton Grand for both quality and spread in my opinion. At Marriott the warm dishes where ok but potato gratin and meatballs were not as enjoyable as the upscale protein dishes of skewers with veggies at Sheraton, not to mention that cold options were more varied and more interesting at Sheraton too. For the venue I also thought Sheraton was better – Marriott’s club was a long and narrow room with a dense seating arrangement.
Breakfast was available in the restaurant, not in the lounge. Breakfast was fine at Marriott but not as nice as Sheraton, the one exception is that Marriott had sparkling wine available whereas at Sheraton it’s been eliminated from breakfast recently.
Service was very good at both Sheraton Grand and Marriott but if I had to say which one was better I would say the edge goes to Marriott as being a bit more polished.
Overall I can recommend Marriott especially if location is important, but for people who are more agnostic about location, the Sheraton Grand suites and the food & beverage were a notch above...
Read moreI don't have enough words to describe how pleasant the experience was. While there are many options for hotels in Tbilisi I must say we are grateful that we made the right choice.
The pleasant experience started before we even arrived. I called the hotel ahead of time for early checkin and to make sure that we had executive lounge access. I believe Sonia was who I talked to. She took care of everything. Wonderful start!
When we arrived, a little tired from our travel, there was the smiling face from Misha to greet us. Oh what a smile! Can lift any mood! He was very helpful the whole stay. What a pleasure. I already miss him! And the hotel staff checked us in immediately. Another plus!
Our room was delightful. Although we had some problems with the AC the conditions were addressed quickly by the staff. The lounge was also very nice. I forgot the name of the girl who was working up there, but she was very diligent and welcoming and kind, like all the staff.
As we needed help with reservations or anything if Misha wasn't around it still seemed like there were 20 smiling people around us to help us with any request. I've never felt this much attention in any hotel! Honestly we felt like celebrities, with people always around to attend to any need. And do so happily!!! The breakfast at Park Grill was amazing. The staff was on top of everything. You waited for nothing. Had everything for every diet and lovely fresh choices. Well stocked, plentiful selection and top tier foods as well as made to order grill. They were missing nothing. They even had champagne! Normally we don't have champagne for breakfast but this time we did! Staying at this Marriott deserved a celebration!
Georgia has a well earned reputation for kind and generous people. And none more so than at the Marriott. The hotel is not typically the highlight of travel, but in this occasion I will say it was one of our most memorably pleasant experiences.
We want to come back soon again, if for no other reason that to visit our friends at the Marriott. Well done! Please don't...
Read moreOne word Racism is real. Idk where to start with!!!! Let’s start with front office: ITS BAD AND RUDE except one girl who comes later in the evening. F&B : absolutely horrible staff, breakfast has very limited options and nothing tastes good. The service in the breakfast restaurant is just horrifying, if you ask any steward for any help or anything they’ll just nod and you’ll be waiting for them forever and they’ll never show up except taking off the plates from your tables while you’re still eating. There’s no help at all, you’ll have to make your own tables get cutlery by yourself as well. THE CHEF ( BALD ONE ) so rude that while we asked him to make omelettes he replied I’ve already given you one!!!!!!! I mean I was stunned and shocked to hear the reply. Rooms : small rooms with no balcony, no amenities provided in the room, being 5 star this hotel does not even meet the standards of a 3 star hotel. The mini bar is empty and this is funny, at the time of check out they came to check if we’ve consumed anything from mini bar haha which they don’t fill at all. Washrooms are without head shower, just a hand shower installed that’s all. No amenities in the washroom ( here also you’ve to ask for dental kit and all ) nothing provided by the hotel. Three days stay here in the hotel with two rooms and left with just disappointment. Also unnecessary prices for everything, I used bolt app during our stay in Tbilisi and one time I couldn’t get a ride it was far so I asked for help with a cab and they said 48GEL for a ride which was costing 4GEL on bolt so please be aware while getting any service from the hotel. Housekeeping: Just bad just too baddddd, they’ll come and make the bed (that too like someone is forced to do it ). They’ll leave the left over food in the room as it is and There was hairs in the washroom everywhere.
NOTE : this hotels location is where the protests happen everyday so the police blocks the roads in the evening and it’s very hard to get a cab or...
