Kaffeebar was one of the biggest gastronomical disappointments I've lived through in 2021. It was especially heartbreaking after reading all the positive and promising comments about this place. My experience unfortunately was significantly different to those described on the Internet, which only makes it likely to be an occasional slip instead of a general rule. To describe the place shortly, I'd say "overpriced, overrated and disappointing". I know it's harsh, but let me explain. First of all, the food was "meh". I would not dare to send anything back, it wasn't bad enough for this kind of procedure, but simply I wasn't thrilled to finish my meal. The avocado toast was a triple B: bland, bland and bland. I get that it was avocado-pea mix, but it's a popular way of preparing it in numerous locations and I've never before tried one that tasted neither of avocado nor the peas... simply adding more spices, olive oil, maybe some French mustard, herbs would have made it a dish worth it's price? I don't know, because unsatisfied with the size and the taste of my toast I'd ordered a kimchi toastie with vegan cheese, which soon enough broke my heart too. Listen, I know kimchi is supposed to be spicy and sour, but this sandwich kind of forgot to be spicy and just focused to be sour. When one makes a dish with a particularly sour ingredient they should include other toppings to compensate the flavours, which wasn't the case with this position. But still, it was edible, especially with a cup of coffee and a bottle of water.
What made me very disappointed about the place was the staff. They were in no way rude, but you know when you look at someone and you can tell they really don't want to be somewhere or do anything? That's how 2 out of 3 service staff present on that day felt to me. Taking glasses form the table without asking, mismanaging the numbers with the orders and even taking away one of the two tables from a group of 5, for other customers (which frankly was the most unprofessional and unforgivable things I've experience in my life. The waitress literally made me eat my meal on my laps, because the table she'd left for our group was too low and too packed with glasses, bottles and other perfectly normal objects when you're having lunch in a big group.) So this was my experience in Kaffeebar and I simply don't recommend this...
Read moreIt's always the same problem with this place so, this time, I think it is fair to write about it. The coffee is amazing, the cakes and the pastries proposed ok, but the staff is so rude and unpolite, I truly to struggle to understand how you can work at contact with people and be so rude. This time (and it was not the first experience of impoliteness at Kaffeebar over the years) we placed our order in English but the girl at the counter insisted to speak to us in German, asking where we were going to seat and insisting, like we were two idiots, saying "wo, wo, wo, wo, wo", and moving her hand so that we can understand she's meaning "where". Now you'd say, "maybe she does not speak English", which is fair, it is what we thought too but....no, she does speak very good English, since just seconds after she started a conversation, in English, with her colleague. Probably we did something wrong to her, without noticing, when placing our order but, once again, this was the quintessence of passive-aggressiveness applied to café interaction. If you go to Kaffeebar, remember that: good coffee, rude and...
Read moreOne hour wait for eggs benedict and gluten free kimchi sandwich; do they bake the gluten free bread fresh on the spot? I don’t think so.
The service wasn’t bad (a little understaffed for a saturday morning but friendly) but the wait for an overpriced sandwich is outrageous! We got there with another meeting planed, after wanting to have a quick breakfast at the place. We went inside, ordered, paid(!) and waited. People that came after us did the same, were served, ate and left. About three couples who came after us, ordering almost the same food, ate before we could even think of food. The waiters were aware that we are waiting and kept on telling us that the wait is because of the one gluten free sandwich we had ordered. After one hour we received the ordered eggs benedict and the glutenfree kimchi sandwich and after yet another half an hour after we ate I started having a tummy ache. Im still wondering why we actually waited that long instead of having asked for...
