Returning to this hidden gem in Berlin was an absolute delight. Last year, I dined solo during a business trip and was thoroughly impressed, but this visit with my family allowed us to explore a broader array of dishes, each one as exceptional as the last. The setting is simple yet serene, providing a tranquil escape from the bustling city—a perfect backdrop for a leisurely meal.
We started with an array of German tapas that set the tone for the meal, each plate showcasing the fine quality ingredients and attention to detail that define this restaurant. The chanterelles salad with chèvre-filled peaches was a standout, a harmonious blend of earthy and sweet flavors that left a lasting impression.
Of course, we came here for the schnitzel, and it did not disappoint. The veal was cooked to absolute perfection, tender and flavorful, paired with an unbelievable potato salad that elevated the dish even further. The portions were generous, the big plates barely contained them—a testament to the hearty, satisfying nature of the food.
The kids ordered the cordon bleu, which was equally delicious, served with fresh legumes and homemade fries that were a hit with the whole family. Despite the abundance of food, we couldn’t resist dessert, sharing what was easily the best apple strudel I’ve had in years and a chocolate mousse with almond nougat that was simply to die for.
In every aspect, this dining experience exceeded expectations. Whether you're here for the schnitzel or to sample a variety of expertly prepared dishes, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic, high-quality...
Read moreNice place that felt comfy, at least where we were seated. They brought in a beer to everyone, but did not ask if i wanted one - i do not drink beer and would have preferred to get something else as a replacement (water, coke, whatever).
Did not get an English menu and when asking they just pointed to a qr code on the table to fetch it in the mobile. I like going through a manual menu so that felt a bit sad.
The serving was pretty quick.
The food was not bad but, nothing to write home about. I took a chicken one that was filled with cheese. It was a bit dry and did not taste that much. The same with potato and vegetables. Plenty of food but maybe not worth the price. The prices for basic drinks like water are outrageously expensive. Coca cola was not cheap either but felt less expensive since it actually contains more than just water.
The staff felt a bit, not unfriendly but not really welcoming (at least my feeling). They did what they should - serve the food - but not much more. At payment you have to keep track of what you ordered, they don't (only for the whole table) and they wanted tip. I did not really feel like a tip was appropriate since they just did the minimum basics but gave a 5% and then the staff went on to the more unfriendly side and just said sharply "You can go now".
Would i recommend? Not really. If not for the comfy nice atmosphere i thing this would have been a 3- star or a 2+ star. I would say, try something else and see. There are many restaurants...
Read moreI did quite a bit of research before our one day in Berlin — watching foodie YouTube videos and reading reviews — and Schnitzelei Mitte kept popping up as a top spot for schnitzel. I’m happy to say it absolutely lived up to the hype!
Honestly, the only downside to eating here is that every schnitzel I have after this will probably be a letdown, haha.
I ordered the "Vom Landschwein" (pork), one of their two most popular options according to our server. I couldn’t decide between the potato salad and the fried potatoes, so they kindly offered to do half and half — and it also came with a cucumber salad. Every bite was amazing. The potato salad was unlike anything I’ve had in Canada — I kept trying to figure out the flavours — and the fried potatoes were bursting with taste. I have no idea how they made them, but they were absolutely worth trying.
The schnitzel itself was perfectly cooked and packed with flavour — no sauce needed at all.
My mom had the Bayrisches Schnitzel (also pork, marinated). I couldn’t tell much difference from mine, but she loved it. My dad had the beef schnitzel and enjoyed his as well.
We were welcomed with a small complimentary sample of local beer, which was such a nice touch — and it totally convinced us to order a pint. The staff were super friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself was beautiful inside.
Would absolutely recommend, and would 100% go back next time...
