My daughter and I really enjoy hamburgers. We make it a point to try one out wherever we're travelling, which means we've had burgers in multiple countries worldwide, as well as in many cities here in Germany where we live. Based on the really great 4.8 here at Google Maps we were pretty excited to visit Burger Turm when my daughter came to visit me here in Berlin. To keep things short: the burger wasn't good at all. I rarely leave a less-than-positive review, but I have to be truthful and objective in my review.
The biggest problem is with the meat itself, the most important part of a hamburger. The patty was pale grey all around, not grilled at all, lifeless, with no beef juices running out, no real texture. I now see in various photos that other customers have uploaded that this was not a one-time problem. It's just ... blah.
At first I thought the bread was going to be a welcome change from fluffy, mushy, quickly-dissolving buns you sometimes experience, but changed my mind when I realized that the outside was simply dry. With every bite into my burger large dry flakes from the outside of the bun stuck to my lips, requiring me to lick them off or even pull them off with my fingers. Still, the bun eventually got moist and at the very end fell apart, but that's normal.
We both found ourselves not really wanting to finish our burger. Perhaps if our avocado burger had had more avocado (and not just a spoonful in the middle) it would have been more interesting. But like I said, it was the patty that made it wholly uninteresting. The sweet potato fries were very good, though we found that the serving was, for a higher-than-usual price, rather small.
Since I hate to be a complainer, I will add that the woman who took our order was very friendly, and it was fun to have a table out front on the street where we could watch people going by. But, when you go out for burgers, in the end it's the burger...

To say Berlin has a few burger places would be a pretty big understatement. There are a lot! Among the many many burger places, there are some that try to elevate burgers into something that is more than mere fast food. These places are not hard to find in Berlin. Some come and go, and some are already established places with reputation, like The Bird. Even among those places, I would say Burger Turm is standing out, and is bringing something new.
It's very hard to miss the pride and care they take in the development and preparation of their various dishes. You can have anything from an unassuming "normal" burger, to more interesting compositions including seafood, to a whopping 129 Euros literally gold covered burger (or rather burger-like dish). I believe I'll not try that one, unless someone else will be paying :)
My wife and I had each a different one of the "normal" ones, and on the first bite we were both blown away by how good it was. Everything, from the buns, to the patty and how it was cooked, to the rest of the ingredients, is was all finger licking delicious. We will most definitely come back to try more of the burger compositions and find out which ones are our favorites!
Oh, apologies for not adding pictures to this review. We both attacked our burgers before I stopped for air and realized this place must have a...
Read moreAfter eating at Burger Turm I was shocked by their google rating considering how bad their burger was. At the time their google rating was 4.9, which was higher than any other restaurant in the entire city of Berlin and they received hundreds of 5-star ratings with superficial comments from google accounts with only 1 or 2 reviews. TripAdvisor ranked them #1 of 7,268 restaurants in Berlin. Burger Turm completely ruined my trust in google ratings and TripAdvisor.
Here is my honest review. The front of the place was actually pretty nice with outdoor seating under an awning. The interior was clean, open, and comfortable. The woman who greeted me at the counter was friendly and helpful. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. For me the big disappointment was the taste of the burger. It did not taste like a delicious hamburger made from juicy and flavorful beef. Instead it had a very strange texture and taste. It seemed more like some sort of boulette. The fries tasted alright but were nothing special. Overall Burger Turm was decent but there is absolutely no way it was the #1 restaurant in Berlin and there are many other places in the city to buy much...
