Café & Restaurant Spreeblick — Restaurant in Berlin

The food was awful; huge portions and quite greasy. The waitress herself kept insulting America, seeing as we were Americans, and when I pointed out that the portions were quite large and I might want a smaller size, she began to recount all the times she'd visited America and how large the portions were. As I live in New York, this was a little discomforting to see someone try to argue with me about my own country, when they'd only visited it.

She never left our table alone and kept trying to pick a fight with me, so I never got a chance to talk with family but rather try to ignore the waitress's constant appearances. She told us how much she hated America and when my grandfather began to speak in German (he's not fluent, but he knows quite a bit) she began to speak rather rapidly in an obvious attempt to make him look like a fool.

After that, she kept throwing insults at America and demanded to know where I'd gone in Europe, which, luckily, was probably more countries than she'd ever visited in Europe. She was annoying, rude, and never gave us any space.

With so many other restaurants close by it was surprising to encounter underhand tactics being used by staff. Firstly the food was very good, I must be honest. However my wife and I both speak German so don't expect to be taken advantage of. The menu offered a 200 ml glass of prosecco. It was served without the bottle and looked suspiciously small. It was 100ml. We queried it and were told we were correct and another glass would be brought. The final bill, which we waited 20 minutes for showed that we had received 2 x 100ml glasses and because that's what their internal systems showed we were charged an extra 70c for each. The money isn't the point, it's the attitude that made us unhappy. My advice, go round the corner to Mutter for great food and first class customer service. Not a single smile from the staff during our visit and the toilets were very smelly here too. When we paid the waiter he did not give us any change until we asked for it. I had the worst restaurant experience of my life here. The waiter was not right in the head, and spilt a pint of beer on me as his hands had slipped apparently. I did not cause a scene, however I am very unhappy with the way they just disregarded it. They didn't apologise properly. When my friend questioned it they simply said 'it's ok, it happens'. For a reataurant rated 4.3 stars of google reviews, it has been a very disappointing experience overall. To make things worse, the same waiter almost dropped a knife on my leg as he cleaned up our table after. I would tell anyway to spend their money in a better restaurant. Go to a restaurant where they have competent waiters...
