AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS! READ what the owner replied! Far from ridiculous! Below is my original review: ——- Make sure you ain't treated and fooled as "tourist" here! I went there during Christmas with 2 friends, despite the fact that two of us actually living in Berlin and speaking German, the waiter started to speak English (well, probably bcz we ain't white?) to us. Okay, that's fine. The food was okay-ish, tho nothing more than expected. But what really made me angry until now after a few months when thinking about it was: in the end, the waiter asked "how much do you want to tip?" Seriously? When did tip become obligated in Germany? Are you even treating us at least as well as your other German customers??? I always tip a little bit no matter what. But how dare you ask this way? Never ever happened to me in Germany in almost 10 years living here and I asked some "Urberliner" friend who confirmed this never happened in his lifetime! It's probably a mixture of micro-aggression against foreigners/tourists and pure rudeness. Never again and I would suggest any foreigners, especially non-white people, ruuuuuun awwwwway from this place. I only regret that I was too polite and still tipped him a bit. Oh yes, I'm writing bcz I should have said all these directly in front of his face, during Christmas Eve, just like any other average German will do. ——- this is reviewed a long time ago and I just updated it because clearly the attitude from the owner deserves 0 star. Read what the owner wrote! He’s not xenophobic, yeah you could be a foreigner but still white and a white supremacist, obviously his reply confirms what I wrote is true and he probably has problems with the Arabic people, why did you mention speaking Arabic specifically? We are not Arabics but clearly you are a discriminator and it wasn’t even microagression, you were doing...

We were a group of 5 friends (all immigrants) who went to the restaurant to enjoy our friend’s last night in Berlin. When paying at the end, we were told - very rudely by the older waiter lady, with short hair - that only one credit card was accepted for payment for the entire table, which came at almost €200. When questioned why, the lady literally shouted at us in front of the entire restaurant which completely escalated the situation to a whole different one. We believe the establishment wanted to avoid paying credit card fees by not allowing us to split the bill, which is a normal practise in any other restaurant which accepts credit cards transactions - specially in large groups. Also, no signs were displayed to inform such practises were in place. When confronted about such practises, the entire staff team, with the exception of a young lady waiter, which politely tried to descalaste the situation very professionally, were rude and extremely aggressive, displaying signs of violence by hitting the bar counter with the hands and kicking us out of the restaurant (dark eyes male waiter with short hair and dark skin tone). The situation escalated to the point of almost calling the police. The only reason as to why we didn’t was to avoid spoiling our friends last night in Berlin, otherwise I would most certainly have gone ahead with it all the way. Traumatising. Humiliating and shocking experience. We believe we were told we were now “forbidden to return” when exiting the establishment, but we would be crazy to if not.
Tourists & non Germans; avoid this place...
Read moreOoooh girl that Kaiserschmarrn, though! This old-school German restaurant is situated right off the Spree, next to a large park with a great view of the Fernsehturm. Although it's in a bit of a touristy area only a few minutes from Alexanderplatz, we were greeted warmly and the service was very friendly throughout. Also, we heard of lot of German being spoken around us, which with the decor and general vibe, made us feel like we were transported to a small German mountain town. Great atmosphere! To eat, I, of course, got the standard (Hamburger-style) schnitzel and my date got the grilled chicken strips in mushroom sauce. Both were fantastic! The schnitzel was crisp and juicy and the mushroom sauce was 👌. But the star of the show was the Kaiserschmarrn. Honestly one of the best renditions I've ever had, and maybe it's the simplicity that struck a chord. Essentially French toast and vanilla ice cream -- no frills, but each component was perfection. Also I got a homemade iced tea which I highly recommend. We left very satisfied and enjoyed the rest of our walk around Mitte with...
