I thought I’d elaborate a bit more after seeing your reply/justification saying we were basically a drunken loud tourist group and lying about your staff asking us to leave. You’ve been using this excuse every time someone dares to comment on your behaviour and this simply wasn’t the case. So here is what happened from our point of view:
Yes, we were a group of 6 people, speaking English(which made the bartender assume that we were a drunken group of tourists). We weren’t - some of us in the group don’t even drink alcohol, some of us had a couple of beers beforehand to be 100% honest, but we certainly weren’t any more drunk than anyone else in the place). Furthermore, more than half of the group were German and local Neukölln residents-but that really shouldn’t matter anyway. It seems like it does to you, so just setting the record straight. We approached the outside seats and politely asked the waiter if we can sit. He politely answered not to sit outside, and invited us inside to sit at the bar. So far, so good. When we entered, the bartender looked at us and used the classic pretentious-bartender-on-powertrip phrase ‘not tonight’. We tried to explain that it was his colleague that told us to come sit inside. The bartender then replied that he is tired and had an exhausting shift where he already had to serve groups, so he doesn’t wanna do it anymore that night. It came across as lazy and very impolite. (The place was still very much open, with people still having drinks) The bartender basically didn’t want to do his job/was having a bad day and decide to take it out on us.
To your comment about protecting the place against ‘drunken tourists who are out for jaegermeister’… I understand the approach, but we were not that. I lived in your neighbourhood for several years and frequented bars such as Leidak, Mittelpunkt, club49 etc. without ever having any problems. (To those reading, I recommend all these over your place, because they are real and have a human approach while your bartender was nothing but judgemental and pretentious, using the ‘neighbourhood preservation justification’ as an excuse, to cover up his laziness and bad customer service).
I’ve been to your bar a number of times in the past. One thing I will say to your credit is that the drinks are decent, which is why we wanted to come in the first place. (if there was a category for drinks I’d probably give you 3/5). Shame that the bartender ruined the experience for all of us that evening. Luckily we only had to go a few meters further to club49 (a small traditional local bar, that certainly has more of claim to local neighbourhood tradition than you do), where they welcomed us and hosted us till late without any problems, even outside-because after two sentences of conversation they could tell that we are not a ‘drunken group of tourists’. The key difference is: they were willing to have that conversation. Your bartender just wanted to use his ‘power’ without any openness to listen and make an educated opinion. He just jumped to...
Read morecozy little spot and decent drinks but our waiter was very rude and condescending. From the start he seemed annoyed and bothered by my asking for a table upon entry. Shortly after he became impatient because we asked a few questions about the drinks on the menu. He maintained his grumpy and hostile demeanour throughout the night both when he dropped our drinks and as we paid. This all added towards a tense atmosphere and a sense of discomfort/ not being wanted there which caused us to leave after 1 drink. And it’s a shame because the...
Read moreI was there on Friday night and one member of staff in particular was extremely rude. They would not even address us when we walked in and asked for a table, wouldn’t give us menus and sighed when we asked for drinks prices. They acted like we were a great inconvenience as opposed to paying customers. Needless to say we left after one drink and it was one drink too many. It’s such a pity because it was a really nice cosy bar and it completely ruined...
