This is the problem when non Japanese people try to make Japanese food, which happens unfortunately way too much in Berlin. Why would you put pickled ginger and wasabi in a donburi??? And why are all of the ingredients sushi ingredients? The unagi they used comes from nigiri but an unagi don should have much bigger chunks of freshly cooked eel not this sushi eel!! And where are the shitake you promised in the menu? It's all sooooo wrong
And especially for 13.50eur the tiny, tiny portion, i have no idea how this restaurant got such good reviews. The food is edible but not made with any real understanding, seems they just thought to themselves, "hey we already have the sushi ingredients so why not also offer 'main courses' with these same ingredients and we can call it 'donburi' and make...

The ambience of the restaurant was somewhat ruined by the staff who were chattering amongst themselves and laughing loudly non-stop, overpowering the lovely traditional background music and making it hard for customers to hear each other. As for the food, it was hit and miss. Small plates better than main dishes. We really enjoyed the salmon tataki, the hotate scallops and the sake sashimi. These little seafood plates were full of flavour and made of fresh ingredients. Of the mains, the spicy coconut chicken was decent whilst the barbecue beef dish somewhat disappointed. Dry chewy beef and flat...
Read moreWe had a pleasant lunch, sitting outside. My meal was “Unagi Cey-ro with tamago” and a starter of Gyoza. All very tasty, even if not quite as Japanese as I had wished for going by the names. I was asked if I wanted Sushi rice or “other rice” with my unagi (eel). Since in Japanese cuisine Sushi rice is seasoned Japanese rice with sugar and vinegar I went for the ‘other’ option which turned out to be Jasmine rice. I guess Sushi rice would have been normal Japanese rice. The Gyoza seemed to be deep fried, as crunchy as they were, not steamed and fried (no wings). Since the place only advertises “Asian” cuisine I expected this type of Asian fusion food and was not...
